It is called... Great scholar Śākya-bśes-gñen is also considered a disciple of Nāgārjuna, but no related historical accounts have been seen or heard. The history of the great accomplished Śābaripa has been told like the story of Ratnākaraśānti. The accomplished Mataṅga is also said to be a disciple of Nāgārjuna and his son, but he did not appear at this time, but was seen later. This is the story of the time of Āryadeva and others, the seventeenth story. Then, the son of King Moon-hidden (Zla-ba sbags-pa), named Heart-essence Drop (Snying-po thig-le), was born in the region of Go-rar and ruled for thirty-five years. A teacher named Brahmin Caṃka, by practicing the great wrathful Yama's Destroyer (gŚin-rje gśed), saw the deity and thus gained great power of mantra. He killed about sixteen kings and ministers of great cities through the actions of abhicāra. After that, the king waged war and conquered as far as the outer seas to the east and west. The Brahmin killed about three thousand people through the actions of killing, and made about ten thousand people insane through the actions of madness. Similarly, through expulsion, division, stiffening, and making people mute, he harmed many people. Because of these sins, he died of a disease that caused his body to split apart and was born in hell. During the reign of that king, in the city of Flower-possessing (Me-tog-can), a temple called Flower-adorned (Me-tog-gis brgyan-pa) was built. The great teacher Mākhol resided there and the Dharma of both the Great and Small Vehicles flourished greatly. In the later years of Teacher Mākhol's life, King Śrī Candra, the nephew of Heart-essence Drop, ruled the kingdom. He built a temple of Holy Avalokiteśvara and provided for the livelihood of two thousand monks who spoke of the Great Vehicle. The abbot of glorious Nālandā, Śabarakṣita, built fourteen clean rooms there and established fourteen different Dharma foundations. After King Śrī Candra ruled for many years, in the western regions of Delhi (Ḍi-li) and Mālava, a young king named Kanika was appointed to the throne. He discovered twenty-eight new sources of jewels and maintained his rule with great wealth. He also built one temple in each of the four directions.

Thirty thousand monks of both the Greater and Lesser Vehicles were constantly offered to. Therefore, it must be understood that King Kaniṣka and Kanika are not the same person. Among them, the master Mākhol is the same Brahmin Thub dka' nag po (Difficult-to-Conquer Black) mentioned slightly above, namely, Hero, Aśvaghoṣa, Mākhol, Father-Khola, Difficult-to-Conquer, Possessing-Dharma-Rābhya, and Mati-Citra, all of which are known as different names for him. Furthermore, in the city of Khorta na, there was a merchant who had ten daughters. All of them took refuge, abided by the five precepts, and made offerings to the Three Jewels. Each of them married great men of the country. The youngest one married a wealthy Brahmin named Saṅgha guhya, and eventually gave birth to a son, who was named Black. He became extremely proficient in all the Vedas and their branches, and because he was very respectful to his parents, he was known as Mākhol and Father-Khola. He became extremely proficient in the practice of mantra tantras and logic, and the great god Īśvara himself would make predictions. Then, with the pride of debate, he defeated Buddhists in places such as Oḍi bi sha, Gaurā, Tira huti, and Kāma rūpa. Some he converted to heretics, some he robbed of their wealth, and some he forced to prostrate to heretics, and so on, degrading them. There, his mother thought, "If he goes to Nālendra, he will be subdued by the champions of debate and the accomplished ones of mantra, and thus enter the Dharma." The Buddhists of other countries are only the hairs on a horse's ear, while the Buddhists of Magadha are like the body of a horse. Unless one wins the debate against the Buddhists of Magadha, one will not gain the fame of a debater. Therefore, he went to Magadha, and the process of ordination was as described above. There, when he became a holder of the Vinaya Pitaka, the Holy Mother prophesied in a dream, "You should offer many praises to the Buddha, so that the karmic obscurations of your past sins against the Dharma will be purified." Encouraged by her, he composed the "Praises of the Praiseworthy" for the purpose of confession.
