May the Buddha's teachings pervade everywhere. When he developed faith in the Buddha's teachings, his former name was changed, and he became known as Dharma Ashoka, the righteous sorrowless one. When he was unable to offer ninety-six billion gold coins to the monks under the sun, a wise minister suggested to the king, "There is a way for you, O king, which is to entrust the entire kingdom to the Sangha. Because one hundred million gold coins are within its (the Sangha's) jurisdiction." He learned that this was true and offered the kingdom to the Sangha. For the sake of increasing the king's merit, the Sangha ruled the kingdom for two days. There, he offered immeasurable gold and silver to the Sangha, took back the kingdom, and appointed Sorrowless's nephew, Dispersing Sorrow, to the throne. In the writings of the story of Sadang Sangpo, only the arrangement of this historical sequence appears. In connection with the Hearer's Vinaya, there are six Jatakas: the Jataka of Sorrowless, the Jataka of Taming Sorrowless, the Jataka of Sorrowless Taming the Nagas, the Jataka of the Stupa, the Jataka of the Festival, and the Jataka of Offering Gold, and the seventh, the Jataka of Kunla. The second and seventh of these have been translated into Tibetan. I have also seen the Sanskrit versions of the others. Various stories such as the offering of gold are also found in the Wish-Fulfilling Vine. This is the end of the chapter on the history of King Sorrowless, the sixth. When the venerable Dhitika had not yet entrusted the teachings to the venerable Krishna, the venerable Dhitika stayed for many years in Kaushambi, a part of the country of Malawa, and only imparted instructions to the fourfold assembly. The monks of Vaishali said, "What true teaching can be obtained from monks afflicted with chronic diseases?" Therefore, they did not approach him, and while practicing the ten improper bases, they proclaimed, "This is the Dharma, this is the Vinaya, this is the Teacher's teaching." Seven hundred Arhats, including the Arhat Named, refuted them, and in the temple called Kusuma Pura, with King Gaje, born of the Licchavi clan, as the patron,
