Thereafter, an old woman suggested a plan: about three koti away to the west from that place, at the foot of a mountain, there was a flowing stream. By diverting the stream, the wheel stopped turning and the fire was extinguished. When the ground was dug again, a copper plate was found with the inscription: "This is a relic of the Tathagata, one large brevo (unit of capacity) of Magadha. In the future, a poor king will take it out." Seeing this, Ashoka, out of pride, thought, "It is not I who will take it out, because I am poor." So he stepped aside. Later, urged by the Arhat Name, they finally dug down about seven men's height. From the center of the seven layers of inner and outer boxes, including an iron box, they opened it and found that the Buddha's relics, originally one large brevo of Magadha, had increased to the amount of six cartloads. At the four corners of the box, there was a precious jewel, each emitting light that illuminated one yojana, placed as offerings. Knowing that even if each jewel were valued, it could not be compared to all the wealth of King Ashoka's kingdom, the king's pride vanished. So he took out one large brevo of precious relics, placed them back as before, and hid them again, and also set up the iron wheel. The water seal was also allowed to flow as before, and as before, the fire burned again and the wheel turned, and later the top cover was put on. After that, he ordered the people in different places, and all the messengers and work partners were done by powerful yakshas. Stupas were built at the eight great holy sites, and the enclosure of the Vajra Throne, and also throughout Jambudvipa, as far north as Khotan (present-day Hetian area of Xinjiang, China), stupas with the essence of Shakyamuni Buddha's relics were built. In one day and one night, eighty-four thousand stupas were completed. After that, he ordered all places to offer thousands upon thousands of lamps, incense, and garlands to all the stupas every day, and to offer the Bodhi tree with ten thousand vases of gold, silver, and lapis lazuli filled with fragrant water and the five amritas.

And, from afar, offerings were made with tens of thousands of incense and lamps. There, for three months, sixty thousand arhats were invited, and each day they were requested to reside in the sky above Pataliputra, and were offered all kinds of things. The noble disciples and the ordinary beings' sangha were offered on the ground. At the end of that, each bhikshu was given clothes worth a hundred million. That night, in order to see the stupas, the king and his entourage were carried on the shoulders by powerful yakshas. Within seven days, they circumambulated all the stupas of the entire Jambudvipa, offering ten times more than usual, and offered gold ornaments to all the stupas of the Buddhas and Shravakas. The Bodhi tree was especially adorned with all kinds of precious jewels. On the eighth day, I prayed again and again that with this root of virtue, I may become the Buddha, the best of men. He said to the people, "Please rejoice with great joy." Many people said, "The king's undertaking is great, but the result is small. If there is no such thing as unsurpassed enlightenment, how can the king's wish be fulfilled?" If my wish is fulfilled, may this great earth also shake, and may a rain of flowers fall from the sky. As soon as he said this, the earth shook, and a rain of flowers fell from the sky, and the people also developed faith and prayed. When the bhikshus performed offerings for three months for the consecration of the stupa, and on the day of the conclusion, many ordinary bhikshus suddenly arrived, and the king made a great offering in the garden. And he made a particularly great offering to an old bhikshu who was sitting at the front of their row. That old bhikshu had little learning and was very foolish, unable to recite even one verse. And among those young bhikshus, there were many who held the Tripitaka. When the meal was finished, the people sitting below the row spoke to the old
