When asked if he knew the reason why the king especially respected him, the old man said he did not know. They said, "We know that the king wants to come to listen to the Dharma right now, and you should teach the Dharma." At that moment, the old monk felt as if he had been struck in a vital spot. He thought, "I have been a monk for sixty years, and I don't even know a single verse. If I had known this earlier, I would have given those good foods to other monks and asked them to find someone to teach the Dharma. Now that I have eaten them, what should I do?" He was very distressed. Then, the god living in the grove thought, "It would be bad if the king lost faith in this monk." So, he transformed into a form and came before the monk, saying, "If the king comes to listen to the Dharma, you should say, 'Great King, even this earth with mountains will be destroyed, let alone the king's kingdom. Great King, you yourself should consider this.'" After that, the king came, wearing a golden robe, and sat down to listen to the Dharma. The old monk said as before, and the king, being faithful, thought it was very true, felt goosebumps, and pondered on the matter. Then, the god of the grove said to the old monk, "Do not waste the offerings given by the faithful." The monk also asked the teacher for instructions and meditated single-mindedly. After three months, he attained the state of Arhat and spent the summer retreat in the grove of the gathering place of the thirty-three (Trayastriṃśat). Later, he returned to Pāṭaliputra and appeared in the midst of the Sangha and a large crowd of people. The robe given by the king was stained with the fragrance of the flourishing trees, and the whole place was filled with fragrance. When the other monks asked him the reason, he told them the previous story, and everyone was amazed. Gradually, the story reached the king's ears. The king thought, "Even a very dull monk can attain the state of Arhat, which is the merit of the Dharma! And this is also because of my offering of robes." Seeing the benefits of giving and benefiting others, he again held a grand festival for three hundred thousand monks for five years, during the first part of the morning.

He offered food and excellent clothes to the Arhats, secondly to the noble learners, and thirdly to the Sangha of ordinary beings. Then, as that king's life was coming to an end, he vowed to offer one hundred million gold coins each to the Sangha of the regions under the sun, Kashmir, and Tokharistan. Accordingly, he fully offered to the Sangha of Kashmir and Tokharistan, and offered other items equal to that amount. While he had not yet fully offered four hundred million gold coins and items to the Sangha under the sun, the king himself was seized by a severe illness. The king's nephew, named Norlha Jin, who was in charge of the gold treasury, broke the king's word and did not offer the remaining gold to the Sangha. At that time, many Arhats came to the king's presence, and the king himself, with a very devout mind, offered half a handful of Emblica fruit to quench thirst to the Sangha. Those Arhats unanimously praised, 'O King, when you were previously completely free, you offered ninety-six billion gold coins, but this offering now is even more meritorious.' Then, a maidservant was fanning with a jeweled-handled fan, and because she was drowsy from the heat of the day, she dozed off and the fan fell and struck the king's body. The king thought, 'In the past, even great kings would do things like washing feet, but now even such a lowly servant despises me.' Thus, with a mind full of anger, he passed away. Due to that anger, he was born as a Naga in a great lake in Pataliputra itself. The Arhat Ghraasa inquired where the king, who possessed Dharma, had been born, and learned that he had been born as a Naga in that lake. The Arhat came to the shore of that lake, and due to the force of his previous habits, he came out of the lake with great joy and sat before the Arhat. When he began to eat birds and aquatic creatures, the Arhat admonished, 'Great King, please be mindful!' and so forth, and taught him the Dharma. He immediately stopped eating, died, and was born among the gods of Tushita, so it is said.
