Painting method: On the ground, Kungawo (ཀུན་དགའ་བོ།) acts as a guide. Then, divide the picture, and on one side below, in the place of hell, draw a circle of iron-burnt ground. In the center of the burning iron house, a man's body is burning, lying on his back, and a huge iron rock falls from the sky, pressing down. A burning iron elephant drives a man. A burning iron saw saws a man. A burning iron hammer smashes a man's head into powder. From that direction, draw a storm of falling weapons. This is how Devadatta (ལྷས་སྦྱིན་) experiences suffering. On another side, draw a man's tongue very large, stretched outwards, with an iron plow and burning iron ox hooves plowing the ground, draw two sets. On one side, draw rain falling from the sky, dried by the poison of fire. On one side, draw a mouth, and next to it, draw two monks. These are depictions of Devadatta experiencing suffering as an example due to accumulating sins against the teacher and the Dharma. (ཕི) Another painting method: Between two areas, draw a large river symbolizing the Ganges, separating them. In a city on one side of the north, draw many people suffering from illness, disease-causing spirits and mothers walking in the sky, a Brahmin receiving divine prophecies from the sky, the Brahmin welcoming all kinds of people, a Brahmin offering sacrifices, and on one side outside that city, draw many gods watching farming on the ground. In the center of that city, draw the Buddha residing, rising from the sky and walking to the water's edge. On the riverbank, draw many people holding umbrellas for the Buddha, and on the riverbank on this side of the village, also draw many people holding umbrellas over the teacher's head. On the water, draw many nagas holding umbrellas, and in the sky, draw the Four Great Kings and other gods holding umbrellas. Higher in the sky, draw Indra and his retinue holding umbrellas. Make two boats on that river, and the monks travel on those two boats. From the center of the water, many snakes raise their snake heads.

Draw on the ground, one touching the other, on a bridge built with trust, draw the Blessed One and a bhikshu coming. On that side of the riverbank, in any one of the upper or lower places with an umbrella, draw the Teacher without a seat, pressing the ground with his hand. Also from that riverbank, draw King Great-Speech Holder, who made a very long, exquisitely crafted square golden stupa, and the other bhikshus are watching it, and one is turning his back and sewing a Dharma robe. In that empty space, in front of the Blessed One, also draw some bhikshus listening to the Dharma. This is the section on King Ajatashatru's conversion. (བི) Then in that landscape on the other side, in a small city symbolizing Rahula, where the Teacher is seated and teaching the Dharma to the retinue, a parrot flies from the sky and sits in front of the Teacher, offering a request for invitation, and when the parrot returns, it is killed by a hunter and reborn as a god, and by listening to the Teacher's Dharma, he sees the truth. Behind the city symbolizing the city of abandonment, in the temple symbolizing the mango grove, the Teacher and his retinue are dwelling, and from the middle of the road, a virtuous horse-riding woman is surrounded by many horse-riding women, going to see the Buddha, and making a request in front of the Teacher. Then from one direction, as in the scene of father and son meeting, draw chariots with people and vehicles, blue, yellow, white, green, red, and other colors, coming to see the Teacher. Also in one direction, a Brahmin, many Licchavis each give him a piece of clothing, and they offer those clothes to the Blessed One, and the Teacher speaks the Dharma to those Licchavis who have descended from the chariots. On the doorposts of the four city gates of the city of abandonment, each Arhat places his foot on the threshold and recites the dharani sutra, and all the spirits who spread disease flee far away. In two spacious houses, the previous virtuous woman offers food to the Buddha and his retinue, and in the other, draw those Licchavis offering food. Behind that city, behind the small city symbolizing the city of light, in the middle of the Sal tree forest, the Teacher
