Even though Ajātaśatru and Devadatta could not harm the Teacher and his retinue in the slightest, they always did disrespectful things such as insults. Because it was beneficial to many sentient beings in Rājagṛha, they stayed there for a while. Eighty-second, the chapter on subduing Jīvaka Kumārabhṛta with truth: In the past, King Bimbisāra had twice consecrated Jīvaka Kumārabhṛta, and this time Ajātaśatru consecrated him once, for a total of three times, as the king of medicine. He became arrogant and thought: The Blessed One is the king of Dharma, the all-knowing one, but in the field of medicine, I am also like the Tathāgata. Therefore, he did not see the truth. Then, the Teacher, knowing that the time for taming him had come, said: Jīvaka, have you seen the king of mountains, the Gangetic and the Fragrant Mountains? Jīvaka replied: I have not seen them, please allow me to see them. Jīvaka Kumārabhṛta grabbed the corner of the Teacher's Dharma robe, and the Teacher ascended into the sky, reaching those mountains in an instant. There, he saw various kinds of medicines shining like lamps. The Teacher said to Jīvaka: Go and take the medicine! Because he was afraid of harm from non-humans, the Teacher instructed Vajrapāṇi Yaksha to protect Jīvaka from harm. He took various kinds of medicines, thinking: I used to think that I knew everything about the types of medicines, but now I have seen many medicines that I have never seen or known before. Then, he brought those medicines to the Teacher. The Teacher asked him, and he answered in detail what he knew. For the other medicines that he did not know, the Teacher told him one by one: This is called this, this medicine is effective for treating this disease, and so on. His arrogance disappeared, and he specifically said: The Tathāgata is the supreme king of medicine with four limbs. The Teacher also taught him the Dharma, and Jīvaka Kumārabhṛta therefore attained the fruit of stream-entry. Then, they returned to Rājagṛha again. Because the places of the Fragrant Mountain and the Snowy Mountain were very cold, and because of the cold air of the medicines, the Tathāgata contracted a cold disease.

Bhye offered fragrant bathing medicines called thirty-two Utpalas, and gradually alleviated the illness with sugar cane juice and arura juice. During that time, the Blessed One considered that there was no major object to be tamed in Rajagriha for the time being, and the time to tame Ajatashatru had not yet come, so he thought of equanimity as a method of taming. Then, the Blessed One, surrounded by many attendants, departed from Rajagriha and gradually traveled to the Jeta Grove in Sravasti. Eighty-third: Taming the Four Great Kings: Then, on one occasion, the Blessed One resided in the Udumbara forest, and during the day he went to the shore of a pond called "Slow Stream" and sat down. There, the Teacher generated compassion for the worldly beings. King Vaishravana knew this and ordered five Yakshas to set up a seat for the Teacher on the shore of the Slow Stream. At that time, a hermit named Kena's son was living in that area, so he was appointed to protect him from the harm of the spirits. He did so and sat there. Kena's son asked, "For whom are you setting up the seat?" They said, "For the Blessed One." "Why are you staying here?" "To protect you, hermit." "What is the reason for that?" "Because many spirits will gather." "Then who will protect Gautama?" "He does not need to be protected by others, he himself will protect others." Then the Teacher, together with the Sangha, came there and sat on the prepared seat. The four great kings and their retinues came from the four directions and filled a bowl with wish-fulfilling jewels, offered them to the Blessed One, and then sat down in their respective directions. Among them, Dhritarashtra and Virudhaka were from the central region, while Virupaksha and Vaishravana were from the border regions. Considering that there were differences in their awakened habits, the Teacher taught the Dharma in their respective languages. The four great kings saw the truth, and countless non-human beings were matured and liberated. Then the Teacher thought: Now the time of Nirvana is approaching, if the teachings are entrusted only to the gods, there will be the fault of carelessness, and if they are entrusted only to humans, there will be the fault of short life, so the teachings will not last long.
