When the master of the five hundred artisans of the catapult asked what to throw at, they replied, "Throw at Gautama." Those people thought it would be easier to die that way, so Devadatta sought a path unseen by others. Although the other side of the mountain was a cliff, the Teacher conjured a ladder or steps on that side, and the five hundred people escaped from there. The master of the catapult also carried a pearl necklace and went after them. When they went before the Teacher, by teaching the Dharma, all saw the truth and were established in refuge and the basis of training. Devadatta waited and looked again and again, but did not throw the catapult. He himself led the five hundred people up the mountain and went to the place where the catapult was set up. The master of the catapult also fled. When he saw the five hundred people listening to the Dharma, his mind was even more disturbed. The Teacher commanded the five hundred people to flee, and they fled elsewhere. The Blessed One, without concealment, went into a mountain cave and sat down. Devadatta himself, with his five hundred attendants, pulled the catapult and threw a great, terrible stone. The yaksha Vajrapani struck the catapult stone with a vajra, shattering it into powder. However, when a large piece was about to fall on his body, the yaksha Kumira of Rajagriha was supposed to catch it, but that stone struck that yaksha, causing him to pass away and be reborn as a god of the Thirty-Three. There, a small fragment of stone struck the Blessed One's toe, causing an injury, and a stream of blood also flowed. The yaksha Kumbhira, reborn as a god, came before the Teacher to listen to the Dharma and saw the truth. In order to examine the Blessed One's illness, the young physician Jivaka went to his presence three times a day. The people of Rajagriha said, "This quality of medicine is good! This kind is good!" Jivaka said, "There is a medicine that heals wounds, but it is hard to find. What is that? It is excellent sandalwood." There, a merchant once had a lot of excellent sandalwood, but it was all sold. He had a little bit left that he had saved, thinking that the king might need it, and if he couldn't offer it, he would be beheaded, so he had hidden it.

Also. (If) If Ajatasatru heard about the offering to the teacher, he thought he would come to kill me, but even if killed, I would be willing. Thinking, 'I will offer to the Tathagata,' he went and offered it, and when the Buddha accepted it, he happily and contentedly made a vow and left. That merchant was prophesied to be the Sandalwood Buddha. Now the pus and blood from his body have not yet stopped, and some say that applying the milk of a first-time mother who has given birth to a son will be beneficial. In Rajagriha (present-day Rajgir in southern Bihar, India), there was a woman who had little milk and could not even feed her own child. When she heard this, she thought, 'If I offer milk, my child will die; if Ajatasatru and Devadatta hear about it, they will kill me too.' Thinking, 'Even if I die or am killed, I am willing,' she milked the milk into a new container and offered it. That girl who offered the milk was prophesied to be the Milk-Giving Buddha. However, now the pus and blood from his body have not yet stopped, some apply medicine, some recite mantras, but none of them work. Light Increase, who possessed the ten powers, requested the Buddha to speak the truth, and the Blessed One agreed. At that time, it was said: 'Blessed One, in your heart, son and enemy are equal; by this truth, may the pus and blood from the wound stop.' Just like that, as soon as the truth was spoken, the pus and blood stopped. After that, Devadatta and his five hundred followers, everyone except Ajatasatru, were happy. When the monks recounted the story of Devadatta throwing a stone, Kokalika said: 'Are you speaking nonsense? Devadatta is abiding in the samadhi of the fourth dhyana under a certain tree; how could such a great being do such a thing?' The people on the border of Magadha (one of the sixteen ancient Indian kingdoms) heard that Devadatta had done such a thing, and they came with weapons to kill Devadatta. In the world, it is natural for love, hatred, and neutrality to arise, so it happened that things were thrown at Devadatta, and he thought, 'Now I cannot escape or fight; this method is good.' After thinking this, he behaved quietly under the tree as if he were abiding in samadhi. When the people came, they saw him like that and thought, 'This person is abiding in taming, so the previous words are not true,' and they went back. From the time Devadatta transformed his skin into a golden color...
