Having left there, they first went to the householder Gadhana, and after telling the previous story, Gadhana was very surprised, and then Gadhana also reported to King Sharpa. Together with those sages, they went to Shravasti. Anathapindika also greeted them with respect. He told the previous story in detail and wanted to take the upavasa vows. Anathapindika asked, "Do you take the upavasa vows from me? Or do you take them from the Blessed One?" They asked back, "From whom did you, householder, take them?" He replied, "From the Blessed One." "Then we will also take them from the Blessed One." Having said that, the householder Anathapindika led them to the presence of the Blessed One. The Teacher also taught them the Dharma, and Gadhana attained the stream-entry fruit, and the five hundred sages took the Bhikshu vows by saying "Come here," and soon after attained the Arhat fruit. The fourth story is about subduing the people of the city of कौशाम्बी (Kauśāmbī): After that, Gadhana requested the Blessed One to go to the country of कौशाम्बी (Kauśāmbī). And promised to serve and attend to him for as long as he lived. The Blessed One asked, "Is there a monastery there?" etc., similar to the case of Anathapindika. He sent the venerable Encourager Gadhana along with him. After that, in a place similar to Jetavana Grove, he built a monastery similar to Jetavana Grove. On the road to invite the Blessed One, he erected offerings and other arrangements, mostly similar to the case of Anathapindika. He invited the Blessed One and the Sangha. He also offered that monastery, and after offering many offerings, he returned to his home. There, the noble Body-Worker told him, and declared the seven merits arising from wealth: Offering gardens to the Sangha of the four directions, building monasteries there, offering dwellings, offering suitable requisites, providing support for those who come suddenly and those who are about to leave, providing support for the sick and those who care for the sick, and giving alms in times of famine and rain. The seven great foundations of merit that do not arise from wealth are: Hearing that the Tathagata or the Tathagata's Shravaka resides in such a place and being happy.

1. Joy upon hearing of the arrival for a visit, 2. Joy upon hearing of being on the road, 3. Joy upon hearing of arriving in that city, 4. Joy upon seeing the face, 5. Joy upon hearing the Dharma, and 6. Joy upon taking refuge or receiving precepts. At that time, the wealthy one possessed abundant faith, but most of his retinue did not have faith in the Three Jewels. The servant girl named 'The Joyful Mother' had faith only in the Buddha. She offered cloth to the Teacher and made aspirations. She also accepted the wooden utensils that the householder offered to the Sangha. Obeying the householder's words, she offered all necessary items to the Sangha, and thus the servant girl 'The Joyful Mother' was appointed as the mother of the householder. Moreover, previously, after Lakje Drona passed away, Green Lotus Mother returned to Kaushambi. King Sharpa took her as his queen, granting her five hundred attendants, daily provisions worth a thousand panas, and a magnificent house called 'Flower House.' After a long time had passed, the Blessed One, in the land of Kaushambi, established many Brahmins and householders in the four fruits and placed most people in supreme faith. The king and others also made offerings again. Green Lotus Mother had a servant girl named 'Hunchback.' A faithful incense merchant's son, who was acquainted with her, invited the Teacher and the Sangha. Hunchback also went along and helped hold the umbrella. By listening to the Dharma, Hunchback attained the state of Stream-enterer. Previously, she had stolen the value of Depana. From then on, she no longer stole but took it to Green Lotus Mother. When asked why there were so many items, she explained that she had attained the Stream-entry fruit and therefore no longer stole. 'Then, you go to listen to the Buddha's teachings every day and tell them to me.' There, Green Lotus Mother sat on a lion throne, and the others sat on cushions. Hunchback stood at the end of the line and taught the Dharma. After this had happened many times, when Hunchback came to listen to the Buddha's teachings, the Buddha instructed, 'From now on, do this: After the Teacher has perfected the six perfections and understood them, do not teach without reverence and respect. If they listen with respect, then teach.'
