Therefore, one of his titles was named the god of gods. Then, the young bodhisattva was entrusted to all the wet nurses, who attended to him with all kinds of comfortable provisions. His father also held him in his lap and pondered repeatedly. At that time, the king summoned all the Brahmin diviners and other prognosticators and asked them. Most of them knew that he had the thirty-two major marks of a great man on his body. They prophesied, "The path of a great man endowed with these marks is only twofold, there is no other possibility. If he remains in the household, he will become a universal monarch. If he goes forth from the household into homelessness, he will become a Tathagata, an Arhat, a perfectly complete Buddha." When the bodhisattva was seven days old, his mother passed away. Immediately, she was reborn among the opulent gods of the Thirty-Three Realm. From that time on, the bodhisattva's body was never tiresome to behold, his voice was melodious and pleasing, his eyes did not blink, and he looked around in all directions day and night. When the sage looked, he saw the Bodhisattva gazing at various forms without blinking his eyes. The sage said: 'Oh, noble steeds, just as you sleep for only a quarter of the night, sleep does not linger long in the eyes of those who need to pursue their goals.' Thus, he also recognized him as a supreme being. Then, the chief of the mothers entrusted him to the sage, who examined him carefully and said to the king: 'O divine prince, what prophecies have the sign readers made about him?' The king explained in detail the two paths of this great man, and so on, as before. The sage Nirmala said: 'The lords of the earth, the deluded ones, are confused; a Chakravartin will not arise in times of strife. This treasure of the supreme merit of Dharma will be completely liberated from sins and become a Buddha. Furthermore, if the thirty-two marks were not so clear, he might become a Chakravartin, but because they are so clear, he will become a Buddha.' Then, the sage, through his own clairvoyance, saw that before the Tathagata turned the wheel of Dharma, he would die, and knowing that he would not attain the feast of Dharma, tears flowed from his eyes. When the king saw this, fearing harm to the prince's body, he asked quickly. The sage said: 'Even if a fierce diamond hail were to fall, it would not harm this prince. O king, I see my own decline, why will I not attain peace? Separated from this supreme treasure of Dharma, I will die without attaining benefit.' And so on, he said. Then, when the sage Nirmala departed, all the streets were adorned and beautified. The king, together with his ministers, escorted him to the outer gate of the city. The sage Nirmala returned to his own abode and also performed miracles. The mother thought, 'Eating too much will cause indigestion,' and tried to stop him, but could not. She tried to take the vessel away, but could not.
