In Igala, there were sons named Wealth-giver, Wealth-protector, and Wealth-joy, and a son born from a servant girl named Ganga. Ganga entered the great ocean seven times to collect jewels. On the seventh occasion, the merchants from the central region recited sutras inside the ship, and through this cause, having heard the qualities of the Buddha, he developed the desire to renounce. After that, Ganga and wealth were the same as Wealth-giver, so he entrusted the goods to him, advising, "No matter what, our supplies will never run out. This great ocean is full of fear, so don't go." Ganga himself gradually set out for the central region. Arriving in Shravasti, he went to see the householder Anathapindika, and after exchanging signals, he was invited inside and asked, "Why have you come?" He replied, "I have come to renounce in the presence of the Teacher." Anathapindika rejoiced, and the next day they went together to the Teacher. Then, the Blessed One ordained him with "Come," and in the place where he resided, relying on a remote dwelling, he practiced diligently for three months and became an Arhat, and was known as the venerable Ganga, son of the Loving Mother. After that, Ganga, son of the Loving Mother, donned the great armor of patience, converted a hunter, and made five hundred male hermits and five hundred female hermits into male and female lay practitioners, and also had them build five hundred monasteries each in various remote regions. After Ganga, son of the Loving Mother, renounced, the wealth of Wealth-protector and Wealth-joy was exhausted. They wanted to join forces with Wealth-giver, but Wealth-giver said, "My wealth was acquired according to Dharma, but you two did not, so I will not mix it." The two younger brothers said, "The servant girl's son went to the ocean many times and obtained it, but you could not go to the ocean, what wealth did you acquire?" These words stung him, and Wealth-giver, along with five hundred merchants, entered the ocean and arrived at the island of Sandalwood Paradise. The five hundred merchants were very frightened and hesitated, but he remained in a state of equanimity. When the others asked him the reason, he said, "What Gangpo (Gঙ্গপো) said is true. It has become like this because we didn't listen to him. Now there is no way to remedy it, so there is no use in being anxious." All the merchants recognized Gangpo as a great being, and they all said, "We take refuge in Gangpo." The god who favored Gangpo incited him. There, Gangpo, through his miraculous power, instantly came onto the ship. That black wind also turned back as if it had struck Mount Sumeru. Then, Gangpo asked the yaksha, "Why are you guarding the sandalwood? Is it for the sake of the Chakravartin king?" The yaksha replied, "Yes." Gangpo said, "The Buddha is even more supreme than that. For the sake of the Buddha, release these sandalwood." The yaksha also released them. After that, the ship arrived safely, reaching the city with disciples. They built a sandalwood temple where the Buddha resided, and all the brothers harmoniously invited the Buddha and the Sangha. They also reached an agreement with the king. Then, Gangpo, the son of the noble Maitreya, ascended to the top of the building, arranged the offerings, and faced the garden of Prince Jeta, praying to invite the Teacher and his retinue. Through the power of the Buddha, the flowers turned into buildings, the incense turned into the shape of clouds, and the water turned into the shape of piles of lapis lazuli, rising into the sky and going away, which everyone saw. Immediately, the offerings arrived before the Teacher in the garden of Prince Jeta. Ananda asked, "Where did this come from?" The Teacher said, "It is from the city with disciples, which is hundreds of yojanas away." The Teacher told the monks, "Tomorrow, let's go to the city with disciples to beg for alms, and see if they are happy." Having said that, he distributed the wooden staffs. Gangpo, who lived in the land of many waters, an Arhat liberated by wisdom alone, also began to accept (the wooden staff), but Ananda, because he did not have miraculous powers.
