After that, the monks also engaged in activities such as bathing in the river. At that time, the Teacher thought: 'If I were to walk there on foot, those arrogant Shakyas would ridicule me.' So, he began to manifest miraculous displays. Then, countless people from all directions, driven by the roots of their past virtues, gathered in that place. Some came out of faith, some were amazed, some were in doubt, some were urged by others, and so on, with various ways of entering. However, most of them were endowed with the potential to realize the Dharma. Then, in the presence of all those people, the Teacher, together with his retinue, manifestly rose into the sky above. He stayed, stood, walked, and lay down in the sky. Various kinds of light rays also emanated from his body. Flames blazed from his lower body, and a stream of cold water flowed from his upper body, and this was reversed. There was also lightning, clouds, sound, rain, fire, brightness, and stillness, thus displaying the four kinds of miracles in the four directions. Then, the Bhagavan gathered up those miraculous displays and descended from the sky as high as seven tala trees. At that time, the monks came down from the sky as high as six tala trees. In that order, the Bhagavan himself came down from about two tala trees high, and the monks from about one tala tree high. Then, when the Buddha descended from the sky about seven human heights, the monks descended from about six human heights. Similarly, gradually descending, when the Bhagavan came down from a little more than one human height, the monks were on the ground. There, because of the many miraculous displays that were dazzling, the king did not recognize the Bhagavan. Ācārya (梵文:Ācārya,意为导师) gave him a hint, and the king prostrated with his whole body at the feet of the Bhagavan. O you of vast wisdom, and the teacher of all beings, I prostrate three times to your feet. At the time of your birth, the earth shook, and the shadow of the Jambu tree did not leave your body. Then, the Shakyas did not believe that a father would prostrate to his son, thinking, 'What kind of talk is this?' The king said, 'I am not only prostrating now, but from the very beginning, at the time of your birth, the earth shook, and the light shone...'

Also paid homage. Then, the Blessed One, overwhelming those retinues with his majesty, sat on the prepared throne in the center of the community of monks. Then, King Śuddhodana thought: "The Blessed One previously enjoyed the wealth and happiness of kingship, but now, having abandoned desires, he lives a life of hardship." Thinking these things, with tears in his eyes, he asked: "In the immeasurable palace residences, residing in the father's chambers, how does he now dwell alone in fearful and desolate places?" The Blessed One replied: "O Lord of Men, wherever one is, freed from the death of household life, the ten abodes of the noble ones, the Thubpas (capable ones) dwell there." Thus he spoke. Like that, after many questions and answers, the king, starting from the answers to his questions, gave a vast Dharma talk. Then, the king was even more delighted, knowing that his son had attained supreme qualities. The Teacher, knowing the thoughts of all the retinues, taught the Dharma, and seventy-seven thousand Śākya princes, such as Śuklodana, saw the truth. At that time, Devadatta, greatly agitated or entangled by anger, said: "If I knew such magic, I too would take the entire world into my power." Some Śākyas threatened him, some restrained him, and Devadatta said nothing more. Similarly, the next morning, in the pleasure garden called "Surrounded by Brahmā," by teaching the Dharma, sixty-six thousand Śākya princes, such as Brevosa, saw the truth. The next morning again, in the pleasure garden called Rohika, by teaching the Dharma, fifty-five thousand Śākya princes, such as Amṛtodana, saw the truth. On those two days, Devadatta spoke as before, and the Śākyas restrained him. Thus, in those three days, countless gods and humans attained the fruits of stream-enterer, once-returner, non-returner, and Arhat, generated the supreme mind of enlightenment, generated the minds of Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas, accumulated the merit of transforming into the chief of gods, and also sinful actions.
