Not finished. [There] For a short time, the initial one hundred and twenty Arhats, and the two hundred and fifty attendants of a pair of supreme ones, left to travel and teach the Dharma in various different places. A thousand ascetics with matted hair, and the two hundred and fifty attendants of a pair of supreme ones, remained to listen to the Dharma at the feet of the Teacher. Therefore, it was known as the Sangha of one thousand two hundred and fifty monks. From then on, although it was not certain whether it was those individuals, later it was more common for about two hundred and fifty Shravaka monks Arhats to gather in the presence of the Teacher. From the time that a pair of supreme ones attained Arhatship, the Sangha of monks grew in all directions day by day, so it was difficult to determine its exact number. From then on, whether they were Arhats, noble learners, or ordinary beings, there were various uncertain individuals. [Thirty-fourth] Taming the Naga Ela Leaf: Furthermore, the Blessed One traveled to the country of Kashi, and resided in the Deer Park of the Hermit's Speech, teaching the Dharma. Those who lived in forests and pastoral monasteries, including the five monks, became uncomfortable due to poisonous snakes, wild animals, sunlight, wind, rain, and so on. At that time, a householder named Good Giving or Good Fortune built and offered a monastery. Before that, a Naga named Ela Leaf went to Champa and said: Any king master, If attached, then has dust. If without dust, then becomes dustless. Who here says attachment? Etc., these two verses are verses spoken by the Buddhas of the past. Like this, it was written on the wall, and a Yaksha named Golden Light read it and kept it in mind, then wrote it down and gave it to the Naga king Ela Leaf. He said: If this is the word of the Buddhas of the past, but no one understands its meaning, then take this golden vase, and if someone understands its meaning, give them the gold. Walk around in all the cities and palaces. If there is someone who can speak its meaning, give them the golden vase. If there is no one who can speak it, then announce that this is not a city, and then leave. Then, the Naga Ela Leaf asked the Brahmins.

Having transformed into the form of a Naga Brahmin, they traveled to many cities carrying these two questions, but no one could answer. So they declared these cities were not true cities and denigrated them, eventually arriving in Varanasi. There, they still could not find anyone to answer their questions, so they began to curse, and people said, "Go ask the monks." The upright and undefiled ascetic Mibyin came there, met them, and promised to answer the questions in seven days. Since Mibyin was acquainted with the five bhikshus, he asked them, and they said, "Go ask the Blessed One, the Buddha." Mibyin had never heard of the Buddha appearing in the world before, but upon hearing it, he was overjoyed. He went to the Blessed One, prostrated at his feet, and sat down. The Teacher taught him the Dharma, and he immediately saw the truth. He requested to be ordained, but the Buddha said, "First fulfill your vow to transform into the form of a Naga Brahmin, and then be ordained later." Then, Mibyin asked the Teacher about the meaning of that verse, and the Teacher explained it in detail. Afterward, Mibyin also went to the place of the Naga Brahmin form and explained the meaning of the verse in detail. The Naga Elapatra also learned that the Buddha had appeared in the world, so he transformed himself into the form of a Chakravartin king with his retinue and went before the Teacher. When each of the retinue saw him, they were distracted and envious. The Teacher sternly rebuked him, saying, "Come in your own form!" He replied, "We Nagas have enemies." So, the Teacher commanded the Yaksha leader Vajrapani to protect the Naga Elapatra from harm by others. At that time, the Naga king appeared in his own form as a snake, his body was very long, extending from the city of Takshashila to Varanasi, with seven heads, and on each head grew seven Elapatra trees, and there were hundreds of thousands of bees and other insects. At that time, each of the retinue was frightened, and the Teacher pointed to the form of the Chakravartin king that they had envied before, saying, "This is what you envied before." They were all terrified and disgusted, and thus became free from desire.
