also urged. Kauśika, go away. I will sing for a while, he arrogantly refused to leave. At that time, the Blessed One left an emanation of his body in the sleeping chamber, and carrying a thousand-stringed lute made of beryl, in a pleasing and delightful form, he came near the abode of the Thirty-Three, to the gate of the palace of the Gandharva Delightful. There, the gatekeeper informed Delightful, who, out of arrogance, thinking there was no Gandharva greater than himself, came out in anger. He competed with the Blessed One, playing the lute and singing, and there was no difference in the tones. Then, one string was cut, then two strings were cut, and finally, up to nine hundred and ninety-nine strings were cut, and they still competed with one string playing. Then, Delightful's one string was cut, and no sound came out, but the Blessed One's lute still produced sound as before, and he thought: It seems there is a Gandharva more excellent than me, and his arrogance vanished. There, the Blessed One revealed his true form and taught the Dharma, and Delightful attained the stream-entry, took refuge, and received the precepts. The one hundred and seventeenth story is the taming of Delightful Good. After that, the Blessed One disappeared from there and went to the grassland. At that time, there was a wandering ascetic named Delightful Good, who was one hundred and twenty years old, and was revered as an Arhat by the people of that region. He lived during the day in a grove of Udumbara trees on the bank of a slowly flowing pond. When he looked, when the Teacher entered the womb, the flowers of the Udumbara tree grew frog's eyes; when he was born, the frog's eyes opened; when he played as a youth, the buds blossomed; when he practiced austerities, the flowers lengthened slightly; when he became enlightened, the flowers blossomed; when he turned the wheel of Dharma, the flowers were bright and radiant; when he was finally lying in his sleeping chamber, the flowers appeared very withered. The gods also heard that the Teacher would pass away tonight, and thinking that he should dispel his doubts, he went to the grove of twin Sala trees, and met Ananda wandering outside. He said: If I hear that the Shramana Gautama will pass away tonight, I would like to ask some questions about my doubts. Ananda prevented Delightful Good, saying: Do not disturb the Tathagata. Delightful Good spoke three times, but Ananda

When (someone) reported, the Tathagata heard and said, "This is the last time I will speak with the heretics, please allow it." Then he let Rabzang in. He also made a request, and (the Buddha) gave the teaching: "Rabzang, I am twenty-nine years old, and I have been a monk for more than fifty years. I have clearly explained what is good. Rabzang, if I have become a monk, holding the root of discipline, meditation, and wisdom, and I have single-mindedly practiced meditation, and if I have only slightly explained the rational Dharma, then, apart from this, there are no other practitioners among the heretics. Like this, there are practitioners who have the eightfold noble path, and there are no practitioners who do not have it." After saying this, Rabzang saw the truth, and through "come here" he received full ordination and attained the Arhatship. He thought: "It is not good to watch the teacher's Nirvana, I should enter Nirvana first." So he asked the teacher, and the teacher agreed. He blessed five places and then entered Nirvana. The five places are: Rabzang's own body, which the monks saw as the attire of a monk, and the heretics saw as the attire of a heretic, this is one. The heretics could not lift the frame for carrying the coffin, but the monks could lift it, this is two. He conjured up a pond, in which the heretics sank, but the monks walked without sinking, this is three. In that pond, fish and turtles harmed the heretics, but did not harm the monks, this is four. The fire for burning the corpse, the heretics could not light, but the monks could light, this is five. Like this, the wandering Rabzang entered Nirvana with miracles, and when the heretics heard this, they raised flags and circled the streets, saying: "Apart from Gautama's teachings, there is no other way to attain Nirvana. Now, we who act equally with Brahma, the wandering Rabzang has attained Nirvana." They said this. There, countless crowds of giants and other people gathered. In the center of the pond, a fire offering was made on a stone platform, and the monks and heretics all relied on the power of truth.
