At that instant, Mahakala, like the darkness of the age of destruction, with one face and two arms, right hand brandishing a hooked knife, left hand holding a skull cup at the heart, left leg extended, abiding on a corpse seat, adorned with tiger skin and snakes, crowned with dry skulls, wearing a necklace of wet skulls, three eyes wide open, beard, eyebrows, and hair standing upright in yellow, with an extremely fierce appearance, crowned with Akshobhya, flames blazing intensely. At the forehead, Oṃ (藏文:ཨོཾ,梵文天城体:ओम्,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡); at the throat, Āḥ (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आः,梵文罗马拟音:āḥ,汉语字面意思:啊); at the heart, Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུཾ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽). From one's own heart, rays of light emanate, inviting Mahakala and his retinue. At the end of the heart mantra, recite: Mahākāla āgaccha āgaccha. Recite Jaḥ Hūṃ Vaṃ Hoḥ. Merge into non-duality. Offer with argham to shapta. Oṃ Mahākāla hana hana vajreṇa svāhā. After reciting the heart mantra four million times, recite: Oṃ asi musala, triśula, ehyehi, Mahākāla, sarva śatrun nirghātaya, jāraṇa, gṛhṇa pāya, gṛhṇa pāya hūṃ phaṭ. Recite one million times after abstaining from food. After doing so three times, recite the heart mantra two hundred thousand times, which completes the recitation. At the end of the session, recite: Oṃ Mahākāla hana hana, rakṣa rakṣa bāliṃ gṛhṇa karayaṃ kuru ja jaḥ. Offer the torma three times in this way. Offer rakta and chang three times each with the heart mantra. Burn incense, beat the hand drum, and do not remove the worm-like objects. If there is a support, perform the stabilization ritual; if not, say Muḥ and request departure. The subsequent permission for this is: On a black triangular powder mandala, arrange black heaps. Arrange tormas made with turmeric, meat, and bean flour, and intoxicating rakta offerings. Practice the praises as before. The nature of the subsequent permission is: It is similar to other subsequent permissions transmitted from Paṇchen Śākyaśrī. Supplication, refuge, generation of bodhicitta, generation of the deity, absorption, recitation of the three transmissions, absorption of heart, hand gestures, and symbols are all included. In later practices, there is also the practice of torma empowerment, so in that case, tormas supported by wooden frames should also be arranged on the mandala. The sadhana of all Dharma protectors is mostly mixed with the Nyingma tradition, is the stainless speech of Indian scholars, and is the heart essence of supreme joy. This is the chapter on the sadhana of the hooked knife mother transmitted from Kache Panchen.

Phaim! A Sadhana of the Seventeen Deities of the Glorious Protector with a Copper Knife. Om Svasti! Having emanated from the glorious Heruka, I prostrate to the great and virtuous one. I will explain the sadhana along with the subsequent permission, which is practiced according to the tradition of Yama, the Lord of Death. Arrange offerings and torma in front of the object of focus. If there is no object of focus, it is also fine to visualize it in the sky in front. By preceding with any self-generation of Heruka, etc., make the offering and blessings similar to those of the general Protector. Purify the front generation. From emptiness, from the syllable Kham, a great vajra rock mountain arises. Within a protective wheel made of Hum and a curved knife, in the center surrounded by a great charnel ground, from the syllable Bhrum, a palace arises, a triangular skull house, pillars of legs, a half-open net of intestines, a roof of skeletons, etc., adorned with terrifying ornaments. One door faces the front side. In the center, within a circle of curved knives, is a wheel of meteoric iron. At the center is a dark blue triangular dharma source. In the center, on a lotus and sun disc, the forms of enemies and obstructors are intertwined. On the spokes are sixteen lotus and sun discs with corpse seats. With the rays of light from the Hum in my own heart, I summon and dissolve the consciousnesses of enemies and obstructors, Ni being green and Tri being yellow. On the seat in the center, from Hum arises a curved knife marked with Hum, emitting light. It cuts off all cruel enemies and obstructors. Gathering back and becoming complete, the glorious and virtuous Great Black One has the form of a vajra Rakshasa. His body color is as black as a bumblebee. He is short and stout, with the splendor of a thousand suns. He has one face, two arms, and three eyes. His fangs are bared, and his tongue is curled. Blood drips from the corners of his mouth. His hair, beard, and eyebrows are brownish-black and stand erect. His right hand holds aloft a blazing curved knife in a brandishing gesture, and his left hand holds a skull cup filled with the blood of the wicked at his heart. He wears a tiger skin loincloth. He has a crown of dry skulls and a necklace of wet skulls. His body is adorned with venomous snakes. He is fierce and agitated, so angry that he seems to be cutting off the flesh of his own limbs. He stands majestically in a left-extended posture, trampling enemies and obstructors with his speech. He dwells in the midst of a fire like the fire of the eon. On the eight spokes of the wheel, from the eight male and eight female deities, curved knives arise.
