Furthermore, sometimes the Anuttarayoga Tantra, the Upaya Tantra, and the Father Tantra have the same meaning, and sometimes "Anuttarayoga" refers only to the Mother Tantra. In general, the Wisdom Tantra, the Mother Tantra, and the Yogini Tantra have the same meaning. The difference between the two is that the Upaya Tantra mainly explains the classifications of the generation stage and the mantras and rituals with the mandala deity Father God as the main focus, and does not explain the mantras and rituals for accomplishing the Wisdom Goddess. This is the Upaya Tantra. The characteristics of the Upaya Tantra are all possessed by the Wisdom Tantra, and the Wisdom Tantra has many important points that the Upaya Tantra does not have, so the Wisdom Tantra is deeper than the Upaya Tantra. Therefore, the tantra that elaborates on the mandala of the assembly of Wisdom Vajra Yogini, as well as the mantras and rituals, is called the Mother Tantra, which is divided into two types: equally explaining the Father and Mother deities and emphasizing the Mother deity. Other views hold that skillful means are compassion, and wisdom is emptiness; skillful means are action, and wisdom is view; skillful means are the illusory body, and wisdom is clear light; skillful means are the generation stage, and wisdom is the completion stage; skillful means are the four appearances, and wisdom is the four purities. Others differentiate from the aspects of bodily gestures, ornaments, attire, channels, and winds. Still others say that the Father Tantra and Mother Tantra represent one aspect of skillful means and wisdom, respectively, while the Non-Dual Tantra represents the union of skillful means and wisdom. These views are flawed and are therefore not adopted by our tradition. From the perspective of the Father Tantra, there are the tantras of the desire family, the tantras of the anger family, and the tantras of the ignorance family. This classification comes from the Vajradhatu Mandala Ornament Tantra. The first is the Guhyasamaja Tantra and its branches, the Yamantaka Krishna, the Six-Faced Vajrabhairava, the Red Yamari, the Vairochana Mayajala, and so on. The first, Guhyasamaja, if considered from the perspective of the tantra, includes the Root Tantra, the Subsequent Tantra, and the Explanatory Tantra, such as the Compendium of Intentions, the Vajramala of Instructions, the Four Goddesses' Questions, and so on. According to the traditions of various commentators and teachers, there are generally twenty traditions of Guhyasamaja in India.

It is said that there are four roots. Among the translations into Tibetan, there are six traditions called "The Holy Wheel": the tradition of Nagarjuna, the tradition of Acharya Buddha Jñānapāda, the tradition of Acharya Śāntipa, the tradition of Vajrahāsa, the tradition of Padmavajra, and the tradition of Kunsnying. The latter ones are merely explanations by Indian scholars, but they are definitely tantras of Anuttarayoga. Later, they were explained in the manner of Yoga, so great scholars considered them unreasonable. The others are all very pure traditions. The first, the Holy Tradition, consists of twenty initiation rites, the Sādhanasamuccaya as its root, the five stages of completion, the Caryāsamgraha-pradīpa, and the commentaries including the Pradīpoddyotana. Previously, when Acharya Nagarjuna was visibly residing in the human realm and composing the treatises of the three collections, these were not openly proclaimed to others because the disciples were not ready. He taught them only to one disciple named Nāgabodhi. After he attained accomplishment, he remained in an immortal state. Later, about seven hundred years after Nagarjuna's death, Acharya Matangipa and the prince, having actually met Nāgabodhi, greatly expanded and propagated the teachings. The second, the Jñānapāda Tradition, is that this teacher appeared around the time of the Tibetan king Me Agtsomchen Tri Détsukten (approximately 8th century CE). He relied on Acharya Simha Bhadra, Charming Vajra, Yogini Guṇeru, Yogini Jatijala, Acharya Child-Foot, and Siddha Protector-Foot. He obtained countless common siddhis and powers. However, he still did not realize the true nature, so he continued to practice. Mañjuśrī prophesied that he would be taken care of. In a certain place, he saw the noble Mañjuśrī himself appearing as a householder practitioner with a consort. After praying, the mandala of the nineteen deities of Mañjuvajra actually manifested and bestowed empowerment, taught the instructions, and he attained special wisdom. Because he did not trust in the three—food, conduct, and clothing—his body did not transform. He was prophesied to attain Buddhahood in the bardo. The consecration of Vikramashila Monastery, the offering at Vajrasana, the subduing of Nalanda, and the powerful patron providing support, etc.—that teacher possessed immeasurable greatness.
