Because there is no need to generate what is already finished. In the time of the future, since nothing is done, both the thing to be generated and the generator are not permissible. Even if it is permissible for a future thing to act in the future time, at that time, it is only the present because it has already arisen and has not ceased. Since it is not reasonable for non-existence to arise from non-existence, it is also not the case that the past arises from the past, or the future arises from the future. These can also be applied to self-generation and other-generation, and should be analyzed in three times. If it is thought that the present self arises from the past self, then it is not arising from the self, because it would follow that the present other arises from the past other. Even if two present selves become the cause of the object and the subject, this is not self-generation, because the nature of the self to be generated and the self that generates are different, so it becomes only other. If it is thought that the present pot arises from the past pot as other-generation, then the past and present pots are the same in place, the same in form, and the same in nature. Because the latter arises in dependence on the continuity of the previous moment, those two do not become other, because they depend on one's own single continuity. Because mere difference in opposite aspects does not establish otherness. Furthermore, from the collection of both self and other, does a single self arise, or does a single other arise, or do both self and other arise, or does something that is neither self nor other arise? If one thinks like that, then each one is unreasonable. In the first case, it becomes arising from the collection of self and other, so it is only other-generation, and there is the fault of the self arising from itself. In the second case as well, because both the self and other of the cause are other than the result, it is only other-generation. In the third case as well, the self side of the result is the same as the first case, and the other side is the same as the second case. If, in the case of two generations, the other arises from the self and the other arises from the other, then the faults stated for self-generation and other-generation remain. Likewise, the past cannot arise from the past. If it is said that the later past becomes past from the beginning of its arising, then there is a past that did not exist before, and there is cessation even before it arose.
