The absence of shadows and the attainment of various five kinds of clairvoyance are said to be the qualities of earth and so on, which are said to be the qualities of common accomplishments. The eight tastes are: In the "Oral Instructions of Manjushri," it says, "From then until the endless cycle of existence, permanence and no suffering, coolness and oneness, bliss and stainlessness, joy and rejoicing, these are the eight tastes of great bliss." Therefore, it is permanent because it exists as long as samsara exists. Because it is not contaminated by grasping and other conceptualizations, it is without suffering. For the non-learning union, there is no heat of the obscurations of knowledge. For the learning union as well, because the gross appearance of duality has ceased, it is cool. The two truths are inseparable, and samsara and nirvana have become equality, so it is one. Because the mind does not change, it is bliss. Because it is free from inverted delusions, it is stainless. Because it does not go beyond the inseparability of depth and clarity, it is joyful for the sake of accomplishing the benefit of others. Knowing the suchness and the extent, it is the nature of reality. Constantly abiding equally for sentient beings, it is joy of mind or delight of mind. The eight powers are: In the "Lamp Illuminating," it is quoted as saying, "The power of body, the power of speech, likewise the power of mind, miraculous powers, all-pervading, the power of place, whatever is desired to arise, and the eight qualities." The power of body is to simultaneously show countless bodies. The power of speech is to simultaneously teach the Dharma in the language of all sentient beings. The power of mind is to know all knowable things without conceptualization. The power of miraculous powers is to show endless miraculous powers that are spontaneously accomplished. The power of all-pervading is that the Victorious Ones pervade all places, times, and circumstances. The power of place is to become the place of all qualities such as strength. The power of desire is to completely accomplish all meanings and benefits merely by wishing. The power of arising is to generate the three bodhichittas in the continuum of limitless trainees. Because one has power over these, it is power. Some do not count the power of place, but separately say the power of qualities, which is directly contradictory to the root. Therefore, whatever is desired to arise is the eight qualities.

The meaning of understanding, So says Guru Lho-phyogs-pa. The seven limbs and the subtle eight limbs have already been discussed above. The seven suchness-knowledges have been established in the Jewel Ear. Here, there are other views and common terms, but there are such different ways of establishing the essence. Among the ten knowledges, the conventional knowledge is: knowing all that exists as the cause, condition, basis, and dependent arising of the great bliss wisdom, as it is, and seeing it as without self-nature like an illusion. Dharma-knowledge is knowing the aspect of means, of which there are four. Suffering Dharma-knowledge is the aspect of the truth of suffering being reversed, seeing the wheel of the mandala as naturally pure. Origin Dharma-knowledge is that the nature of the afflictions is wisdom, and whatever is merit and non-merit, and whatever appears as the cause of immovability, is also a part of the naturally luminous from the beginning, seeing it as inseparable from the spontaneously accomplished activity and nature. Cessation Dharma-knowledge is that the temporary obstacles to be abandoned newly cease, and seeing that the realm of cessation is also great bliss. Path Dharma-knowledge is seeing all the dharmas of the path, whose nature is mind, abiding in the state of great bliss self-knowing and self-illuminating from the beginning, as inseparable from its nature in the original way. Subsequent Knowledge is the aspect of wisdom, of which there are four. Suffering Subsequent-knowledge is seeing great bliss by focusing on the object of Dharma-knowledge. Origin Subsequent-knowledge is seeing no self-nature by focusing on the object of Dharma-knowledge. Cessation Subsequent-knowledge is seeing that all that is to be abandoned has ceased from the beginning. Path Subsequent-knowledge is seeing that the ground and path are inseparable, and also that it is the nature of emptiness from the beginning. The four truths knowledge is that although it is not separate from the two, Dharma-knowledge and Subsequent-knowledge, if one only identifies its essence individually, then seeing the aspect of suffering as a mandala and its essence as great bliss is suffering-knowledge. Knowing that the nature of arising is wisdom with activity, and also seeing it in the way of no self-nature, is arising-knowledge. Seeing that the nature has ceased from the beginning and also separated from the temporary obstacles is cessation-knowledge.
