Everything is contained within the Alaya consciousness. As stated in the Lankavatara Sutra: 'Likewise, the river of Alaya consciousness, constantly arises due to external conditions. Various waves of consciousness, dance with extreme agitation.' This is illustrated with the analogy of water and waves, just as waves are contained by water. Furthermore, if it is thought that the mind faculty immediately after the cessation of the six consciousnesses is here, then it becomes meditating on the extinguished dharmas as bindus, which not only contradicts the general characteristics but also contradicts oneself, who has proven with many scriptures and reasonings that extinguished dharmas cannot be the basis for practice, etc. Moreover, within the aggregate of the six consciousnesses, in the tradition that does not accept other consciousnesses, there are many who say that emptiness is the Alaya consciousness, but those who consider the sixth consciousness as the Alaya consciousness are extremely rare among those with valid authority. Furthermore, if the great accomplished Vajra Bell master has a reason to explain why he does not accept the Alaya consciousness, then it would be true to say so, otherwise, it is an Prasangika, because he is a noble being. Because there is no other reason to present, and that is not a pure reason. If that were the case, then the noble Asanga, and the one who has seen the Dharma and attained Nirvana, the virtuous teacher Dipankara, etc., for the same reason, all the treatises composed by them would have to be categorized as belonging to the Prasangika school. Moreover, the nature of the Alaya consciousness is mind, which is clearly stated in the tradition that establishes the mind of the three—mind, intellect, and consciousness—as the Alaya consciousness. Establishing these three as distinct is very common, and only this meaning of the words is excellent. The Compendium of the Great Vehicle also states: 'Some think that mind, intellect, and consciousness are only one meaning, and that the words are different here, but that thought is also unreasonable, because the objects of intellect and consciousness are different. Therefore, mind is also different.' It is said in the sutra that in the Mahayana Dharma, the Alaya consciousness is explained as mind, the afflicted mind as intellect, and the aggregate of the six consciousnesses as consciousness, which must be ascertained. Because “ चित्त (citta, चित्त, citta, mind)” refers to the basis of habits, etc., “मन (mana, मन, mana, mind)” refers to the meaning of the arising of pride, and “विज्ञान (vijñāna, विज्ञान, vijñāna, consciousness)” refers to the meaning of individually distinguishing and knowing the various objects. Therefore, the Alaya consciousness is, on the basis of the mind, the basis for accommodating the habits of all defiled and undefiled dharmas. From the perspective of negation,

In short, there are the aspects of seed, maturation, and uncontaminated wisdom. The first has two aspects: the seed of afflictive obscurations and the seed of cognitive obscurations. These two gradually revert from the state of an Arhat or a Buddha. The second does not have the aspect of maturation of cognitive obscurations, but rather the aspect of maturation instigated by afflictions. Therefore, although the Mind-Only school believes that it also reverts from the state of non-residual Nirvana, here we say that it only reverts from the state of Buddhahood. The third is that in all states of Samsara and Nirvana, it engages without difference in essence. This is called the Tathagatagarbha, the Primordial Buddha, the Vajradhara of the causal stage, the Dharmata that is established as definitive, Suchness, the ultimate limit, the ultimate truth of the state, and the non-dual wisdom of the ground stage. These are all just this. Therefore, those who believe that the Tathagatagarbha is a negation, and those who speak in accordance with the intention of the Uttaratantra Shastra, say, "Having seen this lineage element that is like honey," and "The uncontaminated wisdom that beings possess is like honey." Thus, it is actually a negation. The afflicted mind is that which, focusing on the Alaya consciousness, clings to a self. As it is said, "Ignorance and the view of self, pride and craving for self, these four make the mind completely afflicted." As it is said, the ignorance of self that does not understand non-self, and the view of self that causes one to cling to a self, and the thought of "I am" arising in relation to it, and the pride of self, and clinging and attachment to it with the force of strong clinging, which is attachment to self, is the nature of the four self-grasps or together with its retinue. The five sense consciousnesses merely see external objects and do not have the function of adding different labels. But the function of adding labels by focusing on the objects of those and the conceptual thoughts is only the mental consciousness. Therefore, this is also called mental thought. Therefore, when the appearance of the Alaya consciousness appears as the three realms, the afflicted mind internally focuses on the Alaya consciousness and clings to a self, and the mental consciousness externally labels, thus, this gross dualistic confusion arises. Thus, he clarifies that very awareness. In this way, the mind, like a deceiver, deceives.
