It becomes conditioned and non-inherent. Just as the conventional is not fully established, it becomes non-ultimate, like cloth without a pot. If that were the case, the conventional and the ultimate would simultaneously become objects, just as when consciousness apprehends color, the color becomes the object. Furthermore, even though there is not even a little bit of inherent existence, the appearance of cause and effect is not confused, and the appearance is without cessation. As it is said in the Compendium of Trainings: 'How can all phenomena be selfless, yet the connection between actions and their results not be contradictory? How can it be without inherent existence, yet not be contradictory to this life? It is like that.' It is also taught in the Sutra of the Meeting of Father and Son, and many scriptural quotations from the sutras are cited. The appearance of cause and effect and so forth in various ways as the mode of the arising of mind is without inherent existence because it arises from mutual dependence. If it existed, there would be something that does not change from being one, but because it appears to change and go in various ways as cause and effect, it cannot be said to exist. This itself is beyond expression. Fifth, samsara and nirvana are without difference in essence. This is not to say that the emptiness of a pot and the emptiness of a pillar are without difference, but that their essence is without difference. The teacher Yeshe Zhap said, having first mentioned all the phenomena of the ground and path: 'The nature of all of these is pure like the expanse of space, devoid of all forms of elaboration, the wisdom of inseparable depth and clarity.' 'Since all are free from conceptual thought, there is no such thing as samsara.' 'However, like a snake in a rope, it is called appearing but non-existent.' 'Having removed the cataract, nothing else is found from the rope.' 'Likewise, from the mandala free from elaboration, no samsara is found.' 'Therefore, those with the mandala of depth and clarity are now always in nirvana.' 'Since beings do not understand this meaning, they are tormented by the suffering of existence.' Thus, he spoke of the nature of all phenomena as being inseparable depth and clarity, and explained that samsara is like a snake appearing in a variegated rope, appearing but non-existent. The mind, like a rope, is inseparable depth and clarity. Samsara is for those who are deluded, like those with cataracts who perceive a snake. Seeing the nature of the rope after removing the cataract is the manifestation of nirvana, the nature.

Just as a rope is not a snake, but abides in its own nature as a rope, without dimness, it manifests as such. The nature of samsara is nirvana, which becomes manifest when the two obscurations are removed. All the Mahayana sutras agree that the absence of self-nature in samsara is the meaning of self-nature nirvana. The profound nature of samsara spoken of here is also this meaning. It can also be said that samsara is the self-nature Dharmakaya. All that appears in samsara is its power, the clarity of appearance without interruption, and this is the meaning of self-nature nirvana. This is mentioned in the sutras of the final turning of the wheel and in the Mantrayana. The nature of clarity is also the mandala of the dependent and the depended upon, and the mind that appears as clarity is great bliss, the nature of which is uninterrupted, and this is the view of only the unsurpassable vehicle. The nature of clarity is the Nirmanakaya, and the nature of bliss is the Sambhogakaya. These two ways of self-nature nirvana are clarity. If it is not the nirvana of the self-nature Dharmakaya, then all obscurations are not just illusions, but are truly existent, and thus cannot be removed by the path. If there is no nirvana in the mandala of self-nature clarity, then all defilements have already been removed. Since there is no other wisdom that is neither defilement nor self-nature, the mind will be cut off when Buddhahood is attained. If you think that it will not be cut off because many newly arisen wisdoms have been attained, then according to your view, these wisdoms are not self-nature, so these wisdoms will have a time when they are cut off, because whatever has a beginning of the same kind necessarily has an end of the same kind. Then, according to your view, do powers and other qualities exist from the time of sentient beings, or will they be cut off? That is indeed the case. However, we assert that qualities and self-nature are inseparable, and have been present from the beginning, so we do not believe that the stream of the same kind has a beginning. Since it is present in this way, we do not need to acknowledge that it is truly existent, so there are no two faults. What is it then? Only when the ignorance of that mind and the defilements that prevent it from benefiting others are purified, that clarity can know and be able to benefit others, quali

By establishing a new cause for arising, the qualities that arise from it are not like putting earrings on the ears, which are not the same as the nature and essence of the mind. For example, gold with verdigris, we do not consider it beautiful, because beauty and ugliness depend on the perception of others. When the verdigris is removed, the beauty that appears is not newly produced, because the essence of gold has never produced the essence of verdigris, so beauty is the nature of gold, and seeing beauty is newly produced. Similarly, when the mind has defilements, we do not say that it has wisdom, compassion, and power, etc. When the defilements are removed, the power of these three is not a newly produced nature, because wisdom, compassion, and power are also only the mind itself, and the mind is not newly produced. However, using it in this way is newly acquired. Therefore, when the obscurations of the mind itself are removed, we say that these powers are obtained. These things that are said in this way are also the view of the Black Practitioner, that appearance is mind, and mind is great bliss. As it is said in the Secret Actual Tantra: "The wisdom of great bliss is manifestly called fire." According to this scripture, they themselves are the supreme wisdom, existing inside and out, including the causes and non-causes of the three realms, and there is nothing else besides this. In the context of the two truths, when distinguishing between form and the difference of great bliss, it is also said in the Doha of the Black Practitioner: "In the middle of emptiness and non-emptiness, alas! The ignorant do not see anything. The co-emergent unique one exists. The Black One knows it completely." Thus, in the temporary definitive meaning, there is great bliss, and there is no grasper and grasped. In the extremely ultimate context, the mind of bliss is also without self-nature, as it is said: "Happiness and other entities are pleasant without investigation." The great bliss of the mind itself is shown as self-nature nirvana, and it is also said in that: "Great bliss abides in the realm of space, and is manifestly called the Land of Bliss. Aggregates, realms, and sources all arise from it." and so on.
