There are three lineages: the generation stage, the lineage from the teachings of Luipa, and the lineage from the teachings of Drilbupa. In the first, the basis for striking the essential point, as well as the common limbs such as conduct, are also discussed here. The basis for striking the essential point is the aspect of the ground, and how to strike the essential point is the aspect of the path. In the first, understanding how to strike the mind is achieved by establishing the nature and explaining the two truths; understanding how to strike the body is achieved by establishing the appearances and extensively explaining the aspects of channels, winds, and bindus; and understanding the relationship between the ground and the result is achieved by explaining the common aspects of both body and mind. The first is to establish the aspect of the perfections, so here it is only briefly mentioned. There are five aspects: essence, divisions, characteristics, showing the inexpressible nature, and explaining the nature of samsara and nirvana. The first is, in general, the Dharma taught by the Buddhas truly abides in the two truths: the conventional truth and the ultimate truth. Thus, all the Dharma taught by the Buddhas is included in teaching the two truths, and its recognition is also as stated in the Samadhiraja Sutra: As emptiness is taught by the Sugata, know the distinctions of the definitive meaning sutras. From where is it known that sentient beings, persons, and individuals are taught? Know that all those dharmas are of provisional meaning. As it is said, teaching ultimate emptiness is definitive meaning, and teaching conventional appearance is the meaning to be guided. The meaning of what is said is that all dharmas are not established from the beginning of their nature, and the object of the unerring vision of the wisdom of the noble ones is the ultimate truth; and how things appear is merely nominal, established only in the face of delusion, is the conventional truth. As it is said: How it appears is only this, the other is conventional. Secondly, there are divisions of the conventional and divisions of the ultimate. The first is, the master Yeshe Nyingpo said: Appearances are similar but have functions, because of the ability and inability, the divisions of the conventional are made into true and untrue. Thus, the objects posited by evil tenets, and the six sense faculties being flawed, the basis of delusion exists on the support, so it appears as delusion, like the appearance of two moons.

Like dreams and the confusion of places, such as a rotating wheel of fire, and the confusion of places, such as the appearance of the shore moving when on a boat, these illusions caused by temporary causes of confusion are the false conventional truth. In general, appearances caused by causes of confusion are all appearances of conventional truth, because they have the cause of confusion of ignorance. Those that are not tainted by temporary causes of confusion and are able to function in the realm of worldly confusion are the true conventional truth. The teacher Chandrakirti, in the Madhyamakavatara, sometimes seems to negate these two distinctions of conventional truth, but this is in terms of deeply analyzing conventional truth, and not always viewing it as an enemy. In this tradition, it is also permissible to accept both methods as appropriate to the minds of sentient beings. There is no need to be overly biased towards one side. Secondly, as for the ultimate truth itself, its nature is the reality of things, so there is no difference. But in terms of the nominal ultimate truth, it is in terms of determining a specific object, and the two selflessnesses and the eighteen emptinesses are explained. Here, in terms of analyzing the person (pudgala), the temporary ultimate truth is, as stated in the Vajrapanjara Tantra: "From the beginningless stream of existence, clinging to external objects, all is a manifestation of mind, the nature of mind is all-pervading." And, "Form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, all are the essence of this mind, the Muni (Buddha) did not say otherwise." This means that all appearances are not established as external objects, but are the nature of mind. Because there is no object of grasping, the grasper is also its appearance, therefore it is not real, just as if Devadatta has no son, then the consciousness that sees him also does not exist. However, the nature of mind is merely bliss and emptiness, as the Vajrapanjara Tantra says: "In the emptiness of all phenomena, the true accomplishment is the supreme place, like a water tree without essence, the essence fruit has delicious taste. Likewise, in the body without essence, the fruit of bliss, accomplishment dwells, like the sky all arises, like that which is the basis of all dharmas, like the sky the pure nature of mind, is supreme bliss."
