With a strong desire to grasp (the dream state), focus the mind on Anuttara (ཨ་ནུ་ཏ་ར་, Anuttara, Anuttara, unsurpassed), and then go to sleep. When you wake up, do the same as before. By meditating in this way repeatedly, you will be able to grasp the dream state. If you still cannot grasp it after practicing for a long time, it is a state of confusion. There are four types of confusion: empty confusion, suffering confusion, waking confusion, and dull confusion. The first is: not dreaming at all. For this, before going to sleep, hold the vase breathing (bum pa can) many times, focus strongly on Anuttara (ཨ་ནུ་ཏ་ར་, Anuttara, Anuttara, unsurpassed), or place a red bindu on the cushion. Between each cushion, visualize a red bindu the size of a bean, or visualize it gradually expanding until it covers the entire cushion. Focus strongly on the "Ah" syllable in the throat. Generate a strong desire, thinking, "I will dream," and this will eliminate (empty confusion). The second is: although you dream, you cannot recognize the dream state at all, which is suffering confusion or delusion. During the day, focus strongly on Anuttara (ཨ་ནུ་ཏ་ར་, Anuttara, Anuttara, unsurpassed) in the throat, and always maintain the desire to "recognize the dream state no matter what." When going to sleep, generate this desire at least seven times, and this will eliminate (suffering confusion). If this still doesn't work, focus on a red bindu the size of a broad bean between the eyebrows, and continuously practice the desire to "grasp the dream state." Especially when going to sleep, generate this desire at least eleven times. If this still doesn't work, then in the morning, visualize all present appearances as being like a dream. Previously, because you didn't understand, you clung to them as real, but now you must recognize that they are unreal. Practice this desire strongly, and from noon onwards, think that all present appearances are dreams. At night, when going to sleep, hold the vase breathing (bum pa can) many times, visualize a black, round bindu in the hole at the tip of the vajra, and generate at least twenty-one desires, and you will definitely be able to grasp (the dream state). The third is: waking up as soon as you grasp (the dream state), which is waking confusion. During the day, think strongly, "I will dream tonight, and I will not wake up." When going to sleep, generate a strong desire several times, visualize a black bindu the size of a bean inside the vajra jewel, and visualize it gradually increasing in size, filling the entire inside of the body, and covering the entire outside of the body like clothing. Focusing on this will eliminate (waking confusion). Visualize the black bindu turning into clothes to wear.

It is called "Owa." Fourth, if you have a dream once, but immediately become confused, that is distraction. Day and night, you must not lose recognition of the dream. You must also know that the dream is like an illusion, knowing its unreality. You should strongly and continuously generate the wish to know that the root of unreality is emptiness. When sleeping, visualize sleeping in the space between the red and white bindus. Focus your mind on transforming the A (ཨ, A, seed syllable), SHA (ཤ, SHA, seed syllable), and HŪṂ (ཧཱུྃ, HŪṂ, seed syllable) in your heart into HŪṂ (ཧཱུྃ, HŪṂ, seed syllable), and this will dispel confusion. Second, in terms of practice: in order not to be attached to one thing, practice transformation and proliferation; to counteract fear, practice illusion; to generate qualities, practice liberation. The first aspect: proliferate one thing into hundreds, thousands, countless numbers, and then gather it back; transform all of the six realms, the four elements, the lovely, the unlovely, the good, the bad, etc., into each other. That is, when dreaming day and night, repeatedly send out the wish to do this and that kind of proliferation and transformation, and this will be accomplished. Among these, the most important is to transform in the state of equipoise as if it were an illusion. The second aspect: for example, if you see or remember fire during the day, when you dream of fire at night, if you know it is a dream, do not be afraid. The dream does not exist, it is just an appearance. Generate the wish: I will trample on it. By analogy, for all appearances, especially for all objects that repeatedly give rise to fear, joy, sorrow, shame, disgust, etc., you should act in this way. The third aspect: there are two types of liberation, worldly and transcendental. The first aspect: day and night, through dream practice, you should see this and that hidden object. You should ask about this and that hidden matter. Entering the rays of the sun and moon, going above the sun and moon, and then viewing the four continents, etc., and viewing the abodes of the Thirty-Three Gods, etc., you should continuously practice such wishes. When sleeping, visualize the dream as real and act according to that wish, and you will reach that place, see that thing, and receive answers to the questions you asked, etc. If you practice in this way in the dream, it will appear as it is in the dream. Furthermore, you should enjoy the abodes, clothes, food, and other enjoyments of each being, and the women of gods, nagas, asuras, etc.
