Furthermore, it is said in this very treatise that it was composed by Śākya-mitra. In the Compendium of Practices Lamp (Spyod bsdus sgron me), this treatise is used as a source, so it is clear that this treatise predates the author of the Compendium of Practices. At the end of the Five Stages, the dedication of the merit of composing the treatises of the Five Stages to enlightenment is said to have been done by Nāgārjuna himself. If this treatise is not counted, then the Five Stages of the Completion Stage are also incomplete, so it seems that it must have been composed by Nāgārjuna himself. However, this treatise and the treatises of the upper and lower stages have some places where the words and meanings are repeated, so it also seems that it was not composed by the teacher Nāgārjuna. Regarding this, some earlier ones say that the so-called Śākya-mitra is also the name of the teacher Nāgārjuna, and the so-called Holy Vajrapani (’Phags pa rdo rje can) is Saraha himself. Some say that although it was composed by Nāgārjuna himself, because he was very pleased with his disciple Śākya-mitra, he wrote the disciple's signature. Others say that Śākya-mitra composed all five stages of the treatises, and then presented them to the teacher, who made many modifications to the other stages, so they became composed by Nāgārjuna, while this treatise did not need to be modified. It is said that Śākya-mitra is also considered to be the same person as the author of the commentary Kośa la'i rgyan, which is a summary of this treatise, while others consider them to be different people, and there are various opinions. Some later scholars think that it is reasonable that the beginning part of the treatise was composed by the Holy One, and the supplementary part was composed by Śākya-mitra. If so, then it is not contradictory that this treatise is quoted in the Compendium of Practices, and that Nāgārjuna composed the dedication of merit for all five stages, because the beginning of the treatise was composed by Nāgārjuna. It is also not contradictory that there is some repetition with other stages, and that the Holy Vajrapani at the end is Nāgārjuna, and that Śākya-mitra specifically made the dedication of merit for this treatise, because the end of the treatise was composed by himself. As it is said, it also seems very good. However, this treatise is a complete explanation of the path stages of this tradition, so it will explain the meaning of all five stages. How will it explain? The first stage's "with combination" etc., also has a part that explains the generation stage. Although the names of body isolation and vajra recitation do not explicitly appear, the experiential wisdom of these two is included in the part of the three appearances.

Therefore, the three appearances are elaborated here, and those two stages are also indirectly indicated. Moreover, the illusory body, clear light, and union practices are also mentioned in brief. Therefore, the difference between this Five Stages treatise and other Five Stages treatises lies in the details. That is to say, the generation stage, speech isolation, illusory body, clear light, and union are detailed in other treatises, while they are concise here. The stage of mind isolation is explained in great detail in this treatise. The entry part of Vajra recitation and the third stage are only slightly mentioned, so it is indicated that they are concise in other treatises. Therefore, those seemingly repetitive parts are also differences in the way of explanation, and there are slight differences in categories, so there is no fault of repetition. As mentioned above, it is necessary to take what is said in the latter part of the Kalachakra Tantra as the standard. As a treatise of words as an expression, the five stages were written by Nagarjuna, namely: the condensed stage, which is brief; Vajra recitation; self-blessing; manifest enlightenment; the stage of non-abiding Nirvana, these five. Although there may be various statements of Nagarjuna in this supreme view stage, most of the upper, middle, and lower parts of this treatise must be written by Shakya Friend himself. That may be the Vajra brother of the author of the Compendium of Practice, or someone more venerable like a master, which is not contradictory. Therefore, the reason for quoting it does not necessarily mean that it was written by Nagarjuna. Although the initial writing method was like that, now the brief part has been separated, and the necessity of including this treatise in the five stages is: later, when it became the first holy circle in the holy land of India, it would be good to gather the treatises of the completion stage together, and a fundamental treatise that elaborates on mind isolation was needed. Because there were no other treatises, it seems that this treatise was included in it. If the brief part exists separately, it seems convenient for explaining the stages, so it is not included in the combination of these stages. The reason for doing so is that there are many people who need to explain the treatise of the generation stage but do not need the treatise of the completion stage, and there are also those who practice according to the generation stage of other tantras.
