TNT05 0005.The Great Commentary on the Five Stages The Thought of the Great Vajradhara..g2.0f

English

Meaningful conduct is actually the conduct following the generation stage, namely the yoga of conduct, the yoga of subsequent formation, the yoga of food and clothing, and prostrations, offerings, and making tsatsas, etc. Among them, the respective goals and the expansion of emptiness are meditation and contemplation. If immediate actions can be carried out simultaneously with meditation and contemplation, it is called joint conduct. If they cannot occur simultaneously and the expansion of meditation and contemplation is required before or after the action, it is called alternating conduct. The second is three divisions: Having obtained the clear appearance of contemplating all phenomena with elaboration as deities and consorts, one enjoys desirable qualities in accordance with what is appropriate. By learning to see as deities and understanding as deities, there is a single stage of learning and a single stage of understanding; this is also conduct following the generation stage. Then there is non-elaboration: Although there is some effort of conceptual thought, actually, without relying on examination by conceptual thought, the deity appearance arises spontaneously, and one knows that it is merely an appearance of the mind, and thus enjoys desirable qualities. This is the two stages of learning and understanding, knowing the deity and the mind. This is mainly the conduct following the interval between physical isolation and speech isolation. Extremely non-elaboration: Merely the self-appearance of the mind's bliss and emptiness arises spontaneously as the appearance of the deity's form, and one enjoys desirable qualities. By learning about the deity, the mind, and illusion-like qualities, there are three stages of learning and understanding. This is mainly the subsequent conduct of mind isolation. During the stages of the illusory body and clear light, if one does not engage in the vows of awareness, it is possible to enter this state. The second is the conduct of the vows of awareness: The sixth chapter of the Root Tantra says, "Those with form, sound, and taste, the wise should meditate for six months," and so on. And from the beginning of the seventh chapter, "For all enjoyment of desires," until "contemplate in the manner of a lineage." And from the beginning of the fifteenth chapter, it is also taught extensively how to accomplish siddhis by relying on conduct. And from the concluding part of the sixteenth chapter, "The form with disheveled hair and a headdress," and other various sporadic occurrences will appear in the upper and lower parts. The glorious Vajramala is extensive and clear.

Thus it is said: Then Vajrasattva spoke: The method of offering is unsurpassed. With the yoga of non-duality and equality, the order of the method of offering to the body: Do not prostrate to the statues of stone, wood, earth, or gold. Consecration, mandala, and fire offering are not to be done ever after. Excrement, vajra-water, the Three Jewels, etc., the five aggregates are always to be offered. Therefore, one enters into that. The vajra of the heart is the self, the chief. That mind is not truly that. Because emptiness is the characteristic, emptiness also has no form. Therefore, all is like the sky. Thus, even pure consciousness should be offered to the three roots. Because all the nature of the mind is not other than the mind. The self is Vajrasattva, and abides in the nature of the mind. The form of the deity is unsurpassed; there is nothing other than the mind. Therefore, thus discriminating, the self, the single body, is always offered. The five families are always to be practiced. One family is to be considered. Distinction between desire and non-desire, and abandoning distinction between drinking and not drinking. Never speak of yogis as having fortune or not having fortune. Forms of mudras, blue, etc., likewise, there are three distinctions in form. Having not bent the form-vajra, offer it to Earth Essence. True song and inexpressible melody, likewise, there are three distinctions in sound. Having truly bent the sound-vajra, offer it to Vajrapani. Camphor, agar, jasmine, etc., likewise, there are three distinctions in smell. Having truly bent the smell-vajra, offer it to Space Essence. Causing pleasure and sucking, and the six tastes, likewise, there are three distinctions. Having truly bent the taste-vajra, offer it to Lokeshvara. Truly unite the vajra and lotus. Garments and embraces, three distinctions. Having truly bent the touch-vajra, offer it to Obscuration Remover. All these outer phenomena, whether considered or not considered, having truly bent the Dharmadhatu-vajra, offer it to Gentle Vajra. Likewise, outer, inner, and both, not perceiving either, having made three of form, offer it to the deities. The five places are definitely established; in order to definitely arise as the five lineages, in a dream endowed with wind.
