Passing away is one, it is the name of the night passing away. Thus, the supreme master is free from dimness, that is, free from all afflictions and conceptualizations. To the disciple, he shows the stages of manifest enlightenment with external examples as aids. The one who is truly free from dimness is the master who has attained union. Merely bestowing this instruction on one who has perfected the illusory body is sufficient if the initial realizations of the stages of clear light arise in the continuum. This also relies on the wisdom of examples, and through experience of the wisdom of meaning, one becomes the supreme wisdom. Therefore, those who have previously received the instruction of awareness and clear light, and who are in accordance with it, must have a well-established understanding of its nature, free from non-understanding, misinterpretation, and doubt, and must have the wisdom of certainty arising from various experiences. Although the ultimate truth is meant to be symbolized by examples, what cannot be symbolized by examples is the inner bliss, the wisdom of clear light free from the disturbance of conceptual thoughts, which is called the wisdom of enlightenment of perfect and complete Buddhahood, and is attained through the momentary stages of the dissolution of the three appearances. The way in which it can be symbolized externally by examples, and the way in which it cannot be symbolized internally even by merely applying examples, is to say that from the aspect of appearance it can be symbolized by examples, but from the aspect of essence it is the meaning that is free from examples. Second, the nature of emptiness of all things is explained. Not beginning to arise, or initially arising; not middle to arise, or arising in the middle; not end to arise, or arising in the end; the noble ones have well proclaimed that all these are empty. Where there is no going or coming, no exhaustion or increase, neither real nor unreal. It is a wondrous form and not wondrous. Not abiding, not swift in going. Free from the terms of existence and non-existence. Not the nature of merit, not the nature of sin. Not the master of merit and sin, it is supreme. That is the emptiness of all, spoken by the Buddhas. Thus, and so on. To this, there are some commentaries, and the followers of Marpa and Ngok say this: Not initial, that is, in the reverse order arising from clear light, appearing at the very end of all, and arising in order.

At the time of , what arises first is the wisdom of appearance. At the time of arising in order, it arises in the middle of appearance and attainment; at the time of reversal, it is the opposite, arising between attainment and appearance, so it is a non-middle arising, which is expansion. At the time of reversal, it is non-end, that is, it arises first; at the time of arising in order, what arises last is near attainment, that is, the basis from which they arise, and the place where they dissolve, are all emptiness and luminosity, as it is said. If it is thought that this treatise has the advantage of clearly explaining the three appearances, arising in order and reversal, but the "non-middle arising" does not fit with the expansion at the time of reversal, if arising between appearance and attainment is the middle, then arising between attainment and appearance should also be the middle. Therefore, as most commentaries, and Chaglo, Shubu, etc. believe, the luminosity of the meaning, the great bliss of the Dharmadhatu to be realized, is not the first to arise because it is free from elaboration and transcends time, and because it is the nature of spontaneously accomplished from the beginning, like the first arising of all dharmas, or the non-middle arising, that is, it does not reside in the middle in relation to place and time, but dwells as the life force of all in a way that pervades all, but because beings cannot see it, it arises and abides in the middle, or because it is unborn, it is a non-end arising, that is, it does not arise at the end of things, and although things cease, this luminosity does not cease, so it always abides, so it is also the arising of all ends. Those who possess such characteristics are all emptiness and luminosity, as the Blessed Ones have well proclaimed. Just as the luminosity of abiding is, so too, the wisdom that realizes it, which is gathered by the mind, also manifests the nature of that object as it is, just as a crystal that is changed by blue is called a blue crystal, so too, the terms such as unborn are applied to it. This verse in Chag trans says: First arising non-arising, or first arising, central arising non-arising, or central arising, end arising non-arising, or end arising, all is empty.
