That is because one has fallen asleep, and that sleep brings the bliss of blessing, and moreover, just the appearance of the wind moving upon it is what is called nighttime sleep and dream. The happiness and suffering of the waking state are oppressed by the great sleep of ignorance, and it is precisely from that, because of the wind's movement, that it arises, hence it is daytime sleep and dream. Therefore, apart from the difference caused by the sudden cause of confusion and the cause of confusion from beginningless samsara, there is no other difference between dream and the waking state. So, the habits of the waking state also generate dreams, and the thoughts and habits of dreams also generate the happiness and suffering of the waking state. Therefore, it is very likely that the result of dreams will occur in the waking state. "Dreaming in the waking state," etc., this single verse is very concise, and no matter what explanations have arisen regarding this, no one has been able to fully grasp the meaning as it is, but they just gloss over it vaguely. Furthermore, the occurrence of going to the Thirty-Three Realms, etc., in a dream, even if considered according to worldly convention, it is not that the wind-mind leaves the body and goes there, but rather the clear appearance of the dream is due to the power of habit. Therefore, the appearance as the Thirty-Three Realms is also the power of the habit of being born as a god. In reality, if it were not for the power of the habit of being born as a god, then if someone were to be born as a god, they would have already separated from this body beforehand. But here, although the appearance of the heavenly realm occurs, the breath of the human body does not cease, and one will awaken from this body again. Why is that? Although the mere appearance of habit is the same, it is the difference between whether the result or power of the karma previously created has matured or not. Even if one sees the heavenly realm in a dream, because the power of the result of being born as a god has not matured, before the appearance of the god on this body of that birth, that subtle wind-mind, changes because the habit of the god is slightly awakened, appearing as a god, and then when that appearance of the heavenly realm disappears, that wind also enters in the manner of merging into this very coarse wind-mind. The way of entering is not that the wind-mind that went outside returns inside, but rather when that wind-mind previously became clear and powerful.

Even though you see it clearly, when the coarse body becomes dull, it becomes invisible, just like the light of mirages dissolving into the earth, or rainbows dissolving into the sky. Furthermore, when you see the vision of the heavenly realm in a dream, the coarse wind, mind, and body still have the appearance of humans, without interruption or cessation. However, because other habits awaken slightly, the subtle vision changes, merely appearing as the vision of the heavenly realm. Whether it is the subtle or coarse wind, it does not leave the body and go elsewhere. If it did, the sleeping body would lack the element of breath. When the habits that produce the vision of future lives such as the heavenly realm mature, by their power, it separates from this coarse body and dies, and that vision appears very stable, thereby truly attaining the world of the heavenly realm, etc. The difference between maturity and immaturity is that the vision of waking life always appears almost the same as each waking moment while the body is temporarily supported. But dreams always appear different even in the dream itself. Therefore, apart from the difference between the stability of habitual visions, in reality there is no difference between truth and falsehood, because all things are like dreams. That is its meaning. That all things are like dreams is extensively proven in the Guhyasamaja Root Tantra, in the section of the Twelve Examples in the Compendium of Wisdom Vajra, and through the scriptural authority of the Sutra of Complete Purification of Karmic Obscurations. These arguments eliminate doubts about the basis for dream and illusory body practice, the nature of sleep and dreams, and also clearly show the example of the illusory body. Dreams arise from the bliss of sleep preceded by the three emptinesses, which is moved by the wind. At the time of appearance, it exists in a place composed of subtle particles, and because it has abandoned the coarse body and enjoyments, it is subtle. Just as it appears naturally without relying on conceptual thought, in the same way, before the stages of dissolution of subtle and coarse, from the wind that has naturally become the vehicle of great bliss of luminosity, it appears genuinely without thought, abandoning the coarse elements, and possessing the subtle body, pure land, and enjoyments.
