Otherwise, death will come quickly. Just like the victorious ones residing in all ten directions, even if their bodies have no flesh and bones, they still enter the realms to benefit sentient beings and perform the deeds of emanations. Similarly, the mind that wakes up from sleep is a web of conceptual thoughts that desires results. Therefore, all phenomena are like dreams, without truth or falsehood. This is the answer. Furthermore, during sleep, all appearances dissolve, so why does one remain in a state of forgetfulness for so long? And how do dreams of other places, such as the Thirty-three Heavens, arise? In dreams, there is a body present, but it is not this gross body. The gross body is invisible, while the dream body walks, stands, sits, and lies down, performing various actions. Even though the gross body lies on the bed like a corpse, if one dreams of going to the Thirty-three Heavens, is it that this body is abandoned and one goes to the Thirty-three Heavens and other places? When one wakes up, this body wakes up, so does the dream body return here again? Do the results of good and bad dreams manifest when one is awake? Is there a difference between the truth and falsehood of dream appearances and waking appearances? This is the way of questioning. The answer is that the cause of deep sleep is that due to fatigue from daytime activities and so on, the power of the elements, realms, sense bases, and gross winds of the body slightly diminishes, and they dissolve slightly into the consciousness that perceives pleasure. It dissolves into the consciousness of increasing clarity, and it dissolves into the state of attaining great emptiness, which is deep sleep. Furthermore, the winds dissolve slightly, especially when the body is tired and in a state of rest, doing nothing, and dissolving part by part from the eighty natural winds. Therefore, the winds slightly enter the central channel, and the body, in a state of rest, slightly generates non-conceptual bliss. In the second instant after that, the bliss causes the wind-mind to gather even more than before. Due to the awareness focusing inward, there will be more clarity in the clear consciousness than before. After that, the wind-mind gathers even more inward, causing non-conceptual thought to become very strong,

Although the nature of knowing is clear, a vast moment of unknowing, unconscious, heavy sleep arises. The fourth moment of the clear light of sleep also has no distinction of before and after, but exists simultaneously with it. By this, one finds rest and happiness, and a subtle wind is newly born. When this wind mixes with the happiness of sleep and stirs, the appearance of dreams becomes clear as the object of the mind. The meaning of "earth becomes heavy" is: At that time, some dakinis asked, "When arranging the four mandalas on the body, it is said to arrange the earth mandala in the heart. Earth is the symbol of the heart. It is said that sleep is heavy and long because the wind gathers in the heart." If that were the case, then shallow and short sleep would have to be explained as not gathering in the heart, so that explanation is not very appropriate. Therefore, know that when the earth element of the body is heavy, that is, becomes strong, and dominates the wind, sleep is long. Its implication is that water and fire are moderate, and wind becomes short. The term "heavy" is applied to the characteristics of earth, not to the characteristics of sleep. Because there are habits of happiness and suffering in the mind, when those are conditioned by proximate causes and approach the actual arising of happiness and suffering, although there may be omens of those arising in the waking state, they are not known because they are obscured by the gross elements. The body and appearance of dreams are subtle and clear, so at that time, signs of the arising of happiness and suffering appear. That omen is also related to the future arising of the fruit of happiness and suffering. Such dream thoughts make the habits of happiness and suffering very awake, so if one does not prevent them with an antidote in between, then happiness and suffering will definitely arise in the waking state. Therefore, the good or bad fruit of dreams is considered not to be deceptive. "Traveler," etc., in "Change and Unchange," there is "Beings inevitably dream day and night," only the two words sleep and dream are interchanged, but the meaning is the same. Its meaning is: If the dream is good, the waking state is also good; if the dream is bad, suffering also arises in the waking state, which is reasonable. The so-called dream is the condition of the sudden gathering of wind.
