Although for the first two (lights), there are no other appearances such as form, sound, etc., there is a clear appearance of focusing on all ten directions. However, this is not present at this time. But, like the sky covered by darkness, in a state of being nothing, the appearance is obtained with the clarity of emptiness, which is said to be the appearance. That emptiness pervades everything and is more difficult to grasp than the previous (lights), so it is subtle. Because the feeling of emptiness is strong, it is selfless. The first two appearances rely slightly on the channels and winds, so they are related to the activity of the breath coming and going. But here, it only relies on the central channel, so it is not present now. The coming and going of breath in the nostrils is merely the cessation of all three appearances, but here it ceases especially, so there is no memory or feeling of the mind, and no movement of the body. Just as in the previous two cases, the ultimate bodhicitta is the wisdom of the completion stage, and just as Samantabhadra is described as great bliss, so it is here as well. Darkness is very empty, a metaphor for the disappearance of thoughts and external appearances. The three appearances described here are mainly the solitude of the mind, although there are momentary and earth-condensed three appearances, but because the way they appear is similar, they are represented by one characteristic. The "no object of grasping" mentioned here means that in samadhi, the appearances of the three objects of grasping, large, medium, and small, have disappeared. Although the appearance of the grasper itself has not disappeared, when it is separated from the grasped, the characteristic of the grasper disappears. Just as a person riding an elephant was previously called an elephant driver, but later when he is separated from the elephant, even if the person is still there, he no longer has the characteristic of an elephant driver. Furthermore, the characteristics of the three appearances are: The fifty-first chapter of the Glorious Vajra Garland says: "Night should be known as wisdom, all beings dissolve and depart. The part of night turns into the moon, the moon is the characteristic of nirvana. One should know the two forms of wisdom, conventional and ultimate. One should know the conventional as the knowable, the ultimate completely abandons the touchable. What is the place that abandons the touchable?" Here it speaks of the characteristics of appearance. Among them, night is appearance, the twenty-five gross elements and the eighty natures all dissolve. The moon is bliss, that bliss is also nirvana, which is the non-duality of emptiness and the two graspers. That conventional is the knowable,

The appearance of forms, sounds, etc., is accompanied by various signs and appearances. Ultimately, it is the abandonment of the sensation of dripping bindu, the stable bliss of dwelling in the mother tantra. Furthermore, it is said: From the sun, the moon is born; from it, the nature of non-duality is taught. Because of burning, it transforms into the sun. Thus, the moon of manifest wisdom, which is said to arise from the sun, is the burning tummo. Therefore, the first bliss of the melting of bindu is appearance, so the cause of appearance is the burning tummo. Also, in the fifty-second chapter, it is said: The characteristic of increasing appearance is that it possesses thirty-three clear points, and the mandala of kāla expands. The state of increasing appearance is that it arises from appearance and is inexhaustible, possessing sixteen vowels, and the mandala of āli expands. From the secret union of these two, the bliss of union in the center is great. This is a clear explanation of the characteristic of increasing. Among them, the basis for the arising of increasing appearance is the throat, and the secret navel chakra, which is controlled by the red essence, where the root letters from which the letters of the clear points will arise exist, and it arises in dependence on these. Therefore, the reason for the arising of hot appearances, rough appearances, the suffering of attachment, and bright red appearances, etc., lies in this. The meaning of the state of increasing appearance is that the white bindu, which possesses the power of the sixteen ālis of the crown chakra and the root chakra of the secret place, and which possesses the power of the first appearance, dissolves between the throat and the secret chakra, and the great bliss arises from the secret union of the white and red essences in the center of the body. This is the meaning of the arising of increasing from appearance. The sound of interdependent origination of the gathering of āli and kāli is realized as emptiness, the dharma of speech is inexhaustible, and signs and appearances arise inexhaustibly. Furthermore, in the fifty-third chapter, it is said: The characteristic of the boundary is unsurpassed, it is the boundary of separation of appearance and non-appearance, it arises from the wisdom vajra, and it abides in the center of non-dual union. And, the vajra lotus gives birth to immortality, the moon and sun are truly united, abandoning joy and sorrow, etc., it abides at the tip of the knot, supremely peaceful. A small word of cāṇakya, the lord of the night arises. And, in some places, abandoning the beginning, etc., in some places, that is not an object of focus either.
