The method of transmission is as follows: The empty form seen by the yogi, appearing in the yogi's mind as arising, ceasing, and abiding, is an illusion. Therefore, first, one must recognize it as the unconditioned, free from arising, ceasing, and abiding. Second, one must also recognize the mind's clear awareness in the same way, as being free from arising, ceasing, and abiding. The mind's grasping of empty form and mind as separate objects and subjects is an illusion. In reality, empty form is mind, and mind is empty form, inseparable and of one essence. Furthermore, it transcends any verbal concepts such as existence and non-existence, is and is not, good and bad, large and small, etc. Recognizing from these three key points is the three recognitions. When recognizing conventional appearances, if applied to a single phenomenon like a visual image, then the visual image is free from elaboration, the consciousness that grasps the image is free from elaboration, and the inseparability of appearance and mind is free from elaboration, which is roughly analogous to the above. However, one must distinguish that empty form and mind-essence are inseparable wisdom, which is unconditioned, while karmic appearances and consciousness, clear awareness, are inseparable and conditioned. The two, karmic appearances and consciousness, are recognized as being inseparable as object and subject in the yogi's correct conventional truth, therefore consciousness has no division of grasper and grasped, and only consciousness itself exists in nominal truth. This other-powered nature is recognized as being without imputation. In ultimate truth, both karmic appearances and consciousness are unestablished from the beginning, therefore they cannot be expressed as "this" or "other." Although empty form and mind-essence are of the same nature, duality may appear in illusion, but one must ascertain that they are inseparable. For the perfectly established nature, one must recognize that it has never been defiled from the beginning by other-powered nature, imputation, grasper and grasped. Furthermore, these two truths cannot be expressed as "this" or "other." Therefore, karmic appearance is the recognition of conventional truth, while empty form is the recognition of the reality of ultimate truth. Recognizing the nature as free from elaboration is the sixth way of recognition. The third is: All phenomena are naturally nirvana. There is no phenomenon other than natural nirvana. All phenomena of samsara are magical displays that appear without existence. Therefore, the nature
