All of us depend on the kindness of the Lama. Until ultimate Buddhahood, all common and supreme accomplishments, and all happiness in this life and the next, depend on the Lama. Therefore, as mentioned above, all actions of body, speech, and mind should strive towards the Lama. One should also aspire to do so. In short, one must even pray for the Lama's body, speech, and activity to be manifestly exalted. In this way, one will not dwell on faults, but will recognize all actions as virtues, severing hope and doubt, and holding a close and intimate attitude. If one possesses these four thoughts on how to rely on the Lama, then devotion will undoubtedly enter the path. Secondly, in terms of conduct: one does all that pleases the Lama with all actions of body, speech, and mind, including abandoning all that displeases the Lama. However, some think that the Lama is merely a gateway for requesting instructions, and that one can request accomplishments and great blessings from a Yidam or Dakini who is better than the Lama. In this way, all interdependent connections are fundamentally wrong, and where will accomplishments come from? Therefore, one must maintain strong, uninterrupted devotion, and not generate even a moment of wrong view. If, due to karma, a wrong view arises uncontrollably, one should immediately counteract it with remedies, immediately cut off its continuation, and not let it manifest in the actions of body and speech. In terms of speech, one should not utter a single word of slander or abuse, whether openly or secretly. Speak gently, honestly, truthfully, and without duplicity. Inquire in a way that pleases the Lama, satisfies oneself, and is clear and without concealment. From all aspects, praise, extol, and proclaim the Lama's greatness. All that the Lama says must be regarded as truth. In terms of body, one should also prostrate and circumambulate. Perform close and distant service, and all necessary tasks such as messenger, footman, etc., even including trivial matters such as pouring water and sweeping ashes. In terms of offerings, as it is said, "The most excellent of things," offer the best, cleanest, most precious, and most cherished items. As it is said, "Whatever is slightly pleasing," offer what the Lama needs and what pleases the Lama, whether it is actually good or bad.

However, whatever is needed and pleasing becomes the best offering. If one cannot offer things that are pleasing and pure, one offers inferior, poor-quality possessions that one does not need. If it is barley or other grains, one offers inferior grains with blight, measures with the smallest container, and then makes up the number of loads, etc. For objects, one always tries to reduce the quantity as much as possible, while seeking the greatest name and fame. If it is horses, livestock, etc., one offers those that are weak, old, and diseased, and if it is clothing, one offers those that are old and worn out. In short, one offers things that cannot be considered wealth, pretending to offer a lot. One keeps all the good things for oneself. In this way, the key point of dependent origination is fundamentally mistaken, the importance of vows is neglected, the warmth of blessings disappears, and desired aims and accomplishments will never be achieved. Those secret mantra practitioners who labor in vain and whose actions are meaningless, and the images of those who call themselves Dharma practitioners, are truly pitiful! Furthermore, if these ways of serving the lama are done to protect the lama's face, or to show off the splendor of the eight worldly concerns to others, or to achieve one's own desires, then it is like good food contaminated with poison, and it cannot be considered Dharma. Some do not understand that this matter is important for themselves, but instead think that the lama is the only thing they need, and only focus on flattery and ingratiation, thinking that this will please the lama, but they do not realize that the student himself will gain great benefit from it. In short, the key to serving the lama is to follow all the lama's teachings and to act according to the lama's wishes. In that case, this lama yoga, and the refuge and bodhicitta mentioned earlier, these three are the key points of the Dharma. Do not think that they are just some small visualizations and therefore unimportant. Refuge is the foundation of all Dharma, bodhicitta is the foundation of all Mahayana paths, and lama yoga is the foundation of all Vajrayana paths. This is how you should understand it. Furthermore, just from the perspective of accumulation and purification, if one does not accumulate merit and purify obscurations, then one will not have even a little bit of virtuous Dharma. However, the recitation of the Hundred Syllable Mantra and the offering of the mandala, although they are just some parts of the ritual, are very important for secret mantra yogis, and are skillful methods that can accomplish great goals with little effort.
