Those who desire the supreme position should please the Guru in every way. The actual Vajradhara, the embodiment of all Buddhas, in this age of strife, for my sake, shows how to be in harmony with everyone. Knowing this, with all things, one should rely on him, and one will attain the great bliss of the accomplishments of the Buddhas of the three times. And so on. In short, the root of all accomplishments is said to be the Guru, and the sources of scripture are limitless. Now, it is also manifestly proven that those who have no faith in the root Guru will have many undesirable things befall them, while those who rely on the Guru with respect will naturally have happiness and fame arise. Furthermore, in the words of the holy Gurus, it is said, 'If you see the Guru as a Buddha, the blessings of the Buddha will enter. If you see him as a Bodhisattva, the blessings of the Bodhisattva will enter. If you see him as an accomplished one, the blessings of the accomplished one will enter. If you see him as an ordinary good spiritual friend, the blessings that correspond to that will enter. In general, if there is no devotion, blessings will not enter at all.' This is as it is said. The sixth point, the meaning of the term 'profound path,' is: If there is no devotion to the Guru, what need is there to mention accomplishments? Even if there is only enough devotion to not cut off the hope of all qualities and not break vows, if there is no path led by special devotion, then one must seek another means to accomplish the supreme. For this, one needs other methods to clear obstacles, other methods to enhance favorable conditions, and many other methods. For other desired things, one must also seek many different near paths. For example, even if one practices longevity, wealth, power, and so on, some will not be accomplished at all, and some, even if accomplished, will require great effort, so it is not a profound path. But for this path led by special devotion, even the supreme is accomplished by devotion alone. Clearing obstacles on the path, enhancing favorable conditions, and all desired things such as life, enjoyment, and power are accomplished effortlessly by devotion alone. Therefore, it is complete in one, and it is called the profound path. The seventh point, the distinction of the methods of guiding the profound path, is that the guidance of the path of devotion also has two types: guidance by conduct and guidance by supplication. The first is that a fortunate individual, as soon as they meet the supreme Guru,

Reverence is naturally accomplished. By practicing great hardships for the sake of the Lama, all the qualities of the paths and bhumis arise instantaneously, like the rising sun. It includes the history of the appearance of the stupa of glorious Drepung, as well as the stories of Indian siddhas such as Padmasambhava, Naropa, Maitripa, and many Tibetan translators, the yogi Ame Jangchub, and the spiritual friend Jhayulwa. Secondly, most people nowadays have little such reverence, and most are unable to endure hardships. If some individuals can do it, those who do not do it are very happy. In general, it is male arrogance, attachment, pride, competitiveness, always thinking oneself is good, and complaining, etc. Because genuine reverence with Dharma is not born from the depths of the heart, one cannot generate the wisdom of the pure and excellent path. Therefore, one gradually learns reverence through prayer. By gradually meditating, when non-artificial reverence is finally born, the qualities of the path will also gradually arise. Therefore, great reverence leads to great virtue; moderate reverence leads to moderate virtue; and small reverence leads to small virtue. Without reverence, there is no virtue. Disrespect is said to be the cause of falling into the lower realms. The eighth question is how to rely on a qualified Lama: From the King of Tantras: People take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha for the sake of liberation. Here, those who reside in the Buddhist temple are merely the written words of the scriptures. The Sangha who hold the maroon robes are not the supreme lords who give hundreds of thousands of births of bliss. And: Whoever in the human world harms the glorious Lama Vajradhara, those who are free from sin, beings will surely go to hell, there is nothing to be surprised about. Pleasing him pleases me; being angry with him is like being angry with fire. He is the son who gives liberation, bliss, and equal fruits to sentient beings, worthy of prostration and offering. Wretched is whoever does not prostrate to the lotus feet of the glorious Lama at the three times. Ignorant is whoever does not offer mandalas with various flowers at the three times.
