Replacing the small self, not cherishing oneself, holding any sentient being whatsoever as far more dear than oneself, being willing to enter into suffering for the sake of others' happiness, and wishing that a sentient being be liberated first if oneself is not yet liberated. If one seeks a method for one's own liberation, but that sentient being cannot be liberated for the time being, then one has no reluctance to remain in samsara and experience the sufferings of samsara, and one wishes that sentient being to be liberated first, therefore striving for that method. This applies similarly to others. In equality of self and others, there may be a slight mixing of self-interest, so if one meditates on exchanging self and others, that will be purified, thus eliminating the obstacles to equality of self and others. If one has not yet become equal in self and others, casting away self-interest in this place also enhances the mixing into equality. The root is equality of self and others, while this exchange is a branch, yet most of the wondrous conduct of Bodhisattvas is done through this exchange of self and others, and it is a supreme distinction of skillful means, therefore this is an indispensable necessity, like a minister performing the duties of a king. The third point, the literal meaning, is that the ultimate reality, suchness, is called Bodhicitta. Suchness is the essence of Bodhi, and also the nature of mind. The word "of" here is the sixth case, indicating a collection with a common basis. The wisdom of the path that realizes that suchness is seeing the nature of Bodhi directly, and it is the knowledge that focuses on that, therefore it is called "such." This conventional Bodhicitta is the mind that focuses on the state of complete enlightenment of Buddhahood, with the desire that oneself and others attain that, therefore it is called Bodhicitta, and this is regarded as conventional Bodhicitta. The former two are ultimate Bodhicitta. Even so, the Dharmadhatu is called ultimate Bodhicitta, but the term "generation of mind" is not used. In the other two cases, the terms "ultimate generation of mind" and "conventional generation of mind" are often used. So, what is the difference between mind and generation of mind? There is no difference in terms of essence and substance. The naming is done based on the difference in state, i.e., the one who generates the mind.

There are two boundaries for establishing the arising of the mind of enlightenment. One is vowing not to abandon the aspiration mind, and taking the vows of entering discipline through rituals. These are called aspiration mind of enlightenment and entering mind of enlightenment. These two, the aspiration and entering bodhisattvas, are extremely stable and powerful because they arise as the nature of ethics, and they are the basis of all qualities. Therefore, the arising of the mind of enlightenment is the name of the mind of enlightenment that is a vow, or the mind of enlightenment taken through rituals, especially the mind of enlightenment related to vows. According to this, anything that is the arising of the mind of enlightenment is necessarily a bodhisattva, but merely being a bodhisattva does not necessarily mean it is the arising of the mind of enlightenment. Another way to establish the arising of the mind of enlightenment is: when the mind of enlightenment arises in the mind stream through effort and appears in the mind, it is called arising the mind of enlightenment. Because that mind is generated through effort, it is the arising of the mind. According to this way of establishing it, anything that is conventional bodhicitta is also its arising of the mind. The arising of the mind mentioned in all the stages of guidance, such as taking refuge and generating the mind of enlightenment, refers to the latter, which is to remember the mind of enlightenment. The fourth point is to recognize the two types of mind generation in the context of guidance and meditation. Here, it is not enough to explain in detail the rituals of the two types of mind generation and the classification of bodhisattva vows, and it is not relevant to the current topic, so it will not be explained. Here, from the chapter on wisdom in the King of Tantras, it says: "At all times, the mind of enlightenment changes into two types: wanting to go and going. Those who are inferior by entering liberation and who have completely abandoned aspiration are all demonic minds at all times." This means that in order to benefit all sentient beings, one should attain the state of Buddhahood that knows all aspects. Meditating in this way, like wanting to go, is the aspiration bodhicitta. For that purpose, practicing the profound path of Vajra Yoga, like walking on the road, is the entering bodhicitta. If one merely thinks of learning the practices of a bodhisattva, such as generosity, etc., at some other time in the future, that is just a general desire to learn the practices, and it is not the entering mind. Here, the essence is that one wants to learn right now, and being urged by this mind, one immediately engages in a virtuous act that is the cause of enlightenment.
