Since it is necessary to proceed with preliminaries, if the generation stage is not needed for practicing Buddhahood, then it contradicts the necessity of the generation stage preceding the completion stage. This is because Buddhahood arises from the completion stage, and that arises from the generation stage, so they think. Furthermore, these people presumptuously claim that it is wrong to cite others' views as reasons in these instances. They repeatedly say that the generation stage cannot become the cause of supreme attainment, and therefore it is not permissible. Although they seem to be contemplating the pervasiveness of the proofs in their own refutations, they are only citing as reasons what the former party does not acknowledge. Therefore, they have forgotten that to make a refutation valid, it must possess a reason that is acknowledged. Or, they pretend to refute by fabricating what the former parties did not say, which is merely words to deceive their own followers. How can this be known? Because the former parties never thought that the generation stage could be a type of cause for supreme accomplishment, or that it even belongs to the category of causes. They never thought this in their hearts, nor did they speak of it. Although they said it is not a cause, that means it is not a cause in the sense of 'without it, it will not arise.' Other classifications of causes are merely distinctions of types of causes. The reliable, examinable, and certain cause is only the cause 'without which it will not arise.' Therefore, you people have written long strings of words, repeatedly in separate volumes, claiming that the generation stage is the cause of supreme accomplishment, and refuting the view that it is not needed. However, there is not a single instance of elaborating on the correct reasoning of affirmation and negation based on examining whether it is a cause 'without which it will not arise.' Therefore, although you consider yourselves to be precious individuals, you possess the meaning of 'speaking much without foundation.' Please recognize this about yourselves. The answer to the question is: Then, according to your view, it would be necessary to accomplish worldly attainments before practicing the completion stage, because it is said that the preliminary to worldly attainments is the accumulation of merit and wisdom, etc.

Therefore, what is said here as "preliminary" means: If there is anything that can accomplish both the generation stage and the common siddhis, as well as the completion stage and the supreme siddhis, then, for someone who has already generated the wisdom of the completion stage, it is meaningless to practice the generation stage; Because after attaining the supreme accomplishment, there is no need to practice the common accomplishments. First, practice the generation stage, and then practice the completion stage; first, practice the common accomplishments, and then practice the supreme accomplishments, there is no other choice. Therefore, once the generation stage is practiced to its completion, it must be practiced before the wisdom of the completion stage is attained. Therefore, once the generation stage is practiced, except for special cases, it is generally necessary to make it the preliminary of the completion stage, but being the preliminary of the completion stage does not necessarily mean it is the generation stage. Therefore, when practicing the completion stage, the generation stage does not necessarily have to be the preliminary. Explaining the order of the chapters, this is not a universal rule, because it happens occasionally that the generation stage is practiced before the completion stage, but it is not common to practice the generation stage after the completion stage. Just for this reason, when explaining the difference between the two, if the generation stage is spoken of first and the completion stage is spoken of later, then the order of the explanation is in accordance with reason. For example, when explaining the order of bodhicitta and instructions, because those who generate bodhicitta will seek instructions, it is also said in the scriptures when explaining the difference: After bodhicitta, the instructions are taught. This does not mean that instructions are sought only after all twenty-two bodhicittas have arisen in the mindstream, but rather it is considered that it is more common to first generate one bodhicitta and then seek instructions, so the order is explained in this way. Later, because one always abides in bodhicitta, there is no order of before and after in order to continuously seek instructions, but they are practiced simultaneously. Furthermore, exemplified by the order of chapters in the Ornament of the Sutras and the order of the Bodhisattva Grounds, the order of chapters in most of the scriptures is similar, so here, relying on the order of the five chapters to argue is purely a meaningless argument. Therefore,
