Furthermore, the limbs of rapture, investigation, joy, and unwavering bliss arise in sequence. That empty form, although in its state is the essence of the Dharmakaya of mind itself, to the appearance of a yogi who is a beginner, it appears only as an external separation. Meditating on that by means of blending the mind is wisdom. Thereafter, it also appears as if it is not an external separation, and the occasion when it is close to being understood as only mind is investigation. When it is certain that it is not an external separation, and it is close to appearing as being free from grasping and being without the nature of things, it is examination. This collection of the six aggregates together with their retinue, having become like a mist, and experiencing that the clear and transparent mind in its center is one with the empty form, and being certain that it is free from grasping, the small joy and happiness that is drawn from this, together with subtle attachment, is joy. Realizing that the empty form and the mind are one, the great joy and happiness that arises from this, free from attachment, is unwavering bliss. In these, the way of realizing the state of reality is to realize it by the way of gaining clear appearances, but it is not to realize it by the way of abandoning the obscurations such as those to be abandoned by seeing. In general, in the scriptures, the paths of ordinary beings, and especially in the path of joining, the way of realizing the nature of mind is to realize it by means of one's own direct perception and by means of faith, but they do not use the terminology of realizing it by means of yogic direct perception. In this case, all the wisdoms of the six limbs are yogic direct perception, but the difference between the direct perception of an ordinary being and a noble one is due to whether or not obscurations have been abandoned, and it is not necessary to conform to the terminology of the philosophical treatises. The third is: Meditating on an unreal form is not the meditation of a yogi. The object of the mind is not unreal, because it is seen without having examined emptiness. Just as a playful young girl sees an unreal birth in a mirror, so too are past and future phenomena in space, that is the yogi. From this, things change into unreality, and the meaning of the emptiness of things becomes clear. The meaning of unreal things is meaningful, like the four: illusion, dream, mirage, and magic. On those who have the nature of non-existence, this arising of phenomena is extremely wonderful.

Like a wish-fulfilling jewel, boundless, completely fulfilling the wishes of all sentient beings. A divining maiden sees a thief who has not been seen. The eyes of a blind person see a practitioner who has departed. If one sees an existing form, why does one not see one's own face? If one sees a non-existent form, why is it not a rabbit's horn? What is not seen by the eyes of others, and not seen by one's own eyes, the seeing of the unborn, is like the son of a maiden. Thus it is said. These treatises are summarized into four points: the yoga of emptiness-form is not the meditation of conceptual thought, but rather takes the quiescence of freedom from elaboration, which transcends existence and non-existence, as yoga; although it transcends things, it accomplishes all perfect meanings; emptiness-form itself is the meaning of unborn. Among these, in order to show that it transcends the meditation of conceptual thought, there is one verse such as "non-thing," etc. This emptiness-form is not a thing, therefore, even if one meditates on the form of a non-existent thing, one will not be attached to conditioned phenomena, because the nature of mind is merely appearance, not things such as mind and mental factors and matter, nor non-things such as universals. Although it is accompanied by appearance, it is not meditation by conceptual thought, because in the absence of conceptual thought, emptiness is seen without examination. Furthermore, seeing external forms, etc., is preceded by conceptual thought, arises together with conceptual thought, and follows conceptual thought. If it is an unestablished clear appearance, is it not like the contemplation of ugliness, appearing from the habit of meditating on conceptual thought? This is not a clear appearance from the habit of conceptual thought, nor is it seen through the connection of intentional conceptual thought, it neither arises together with conceptual thought nor follows conceptual thought. Does it not appear from the power of the habit of conceptual thought? It is not so. For the time being, if a beginner sees emptiness-form at a distance, the phenomenon of external objects appearing at a distance is the power of the habit of dualistic grasping, but emptiness-form itself, from the point of view of appearance, does not come from the power of habit, for example, in water...
