Although it is an extremely secret and profound Dharma, nowadays some people use it as an excuse to indulge in immoral behavior, which is the cause of hell. Therefore, most ordained practitioners of mantra should rely on strictly observing the precepts, which is the key. 14) Just as gold is extracted by washing away dirt with water, it is crucial to recognize the arising of each of the four joys and to rest in the essence of emptiness. 15) This purifies all the conceptual thoughts of the three consciousnesses and eighty natures. By purifying impure ordinary appearances into emptiness, the deity's form arises from the self-sound of habitual patterns. Whether relying on the generation stage or the completion stage, the union of bliss and emptiness is the key. 16) Through this, the Mahamudra deity form is manifested. All illusions are gathered into emptiness through a special sequence, thereby manifesting the wisdom of bliss and emptiness, which is the wisdom of manifest luminosity of self-nature. This is Mahamudra and union, and merely considering the self-face appearance of self-nature purity as the practice of view is crucial to distinguish between view and meditation, which is the seventeenth key point. In general, all experiences have a sudden quality, which is key. All things with elaboration are grasped by non-conceptuality, which is key. When non-elaboration manifests as it is, entering the boundless gate of samadhi is key. For beginners, dedicating the merits after practice in a pure way to increase them is key, which is the fourth key point. Seventeen key points and four key points, a total of twenty-one key points, these are the essential summaries of all the key points of view, conduct, and meditation of the two stages of the Unsurpassed Yoga Tantra. Please keep them in mind and put them into practice. Here, whatever I have said that is good is attributed to the Guru, and whatever is bad is taken by myself. I confess to the Buddhas of the three times for any wrong words. May this merit enable me and all beings to attain the glory of permanence, stability, peace, and Yungdrung. This was written at Taklung Monastery by the non-sectarian yogi Tāranātha at the request of the incarnation and seat of the Taklung translator Shakya Sangpo, at the age of twenty. Said to Rinpoche Tashi Rinchen: Namo Guru Bhyaḥ (藏文,梵文天城体:नमो गुरुभ्यः,梵文罗马拟音:namo gurubhyaḥ, 汉语字面意思:顶礼 गुरु गुरु上师). Homage to the Guru Vajradhara and the Three Jewels. This is the treasure of all benefits and happiness. Also obtained the essence of the Dharma. Use the precious leisure for the most supreme goal, and contemplate that it is uncertain when death will come. The suffering of samsara.

Having generated a definite understanding of suffering, take refuge with a pure mind. Believe in the law of karma and act accordingly. Meditate on the Bodhicitta of equality and exchange. Train in the six perfections. Practice the ten virtuous actions. If you possess these eight, you are a yogi who accomplishes all the sacred Dharma. Otherwise, you are merely a shadow of practice. Especially, abandoning the five faults is the foundation for meditating on Shamatha (calm abiding). In the state of suchness, in a way that is free from extremes, through subsequent inference, gain definite understanding. Combining with the aspect of wisdom, Vipassana (insight meditation) appears as the main part of the path. When clarity and sharpness are complete, and you abide steadily without wavering, even subtle excitement and dullness are abandoned, and it is said that faults are eliminated. Like gold ornaments polished on a stone, please practice the union of Shamatha and Vipassana. All these appearances now, from the moment they appear, are without inherent existence. Though empty, they can still function, and the interdependence is not interrupted. Emptiness is all-encompassing. Even if you have already understood this in your heart, please do not waver. I will proclaim it for a long time. Now, this is extremely secret, the oral instruction of the supreme vehicle, like the four tantras and the guru's oral instructions, I will explain a little. Without losing the vows of empowerment, fully practice the limbs of the generation stage. Generate joy and bliss in this, and praise the meditation on the union of depth and clarity. Then, the completion stage is to meditate on everything within the all-shaking. Body posture, vase breathing, combined with wind yoga, one finger or four fingers, constantly meditate on the butter lamp. Jewel, meditate on luminosity in the heart. Secretly, hold dreams in the throat. Crown of the head, below the navel, meditate on the illusory body. At the navel, kindle Tummo (inner heat). By constantly meditating on these, the mind's focus, the union of the two truths, etc., is in accordance with the common generation stage. Sometimes, examine and meditate very carefully. At other times, focus single-pointedly. At times, relax and rest. Constantly pray to the guru, saying that obstacles and hindrances will not arise, and qualities will increase. Taking the ten wind yogas, etc., some practical applications are not listed here. The reasons for these, etc., the gathering, abiding, and dissolving of the winds, the method of guiding the dissolving bliss, etc., you who hold the Tripitaka, in your heart.
