In a place without refuge, they eat each other, Constantly frightened and confused by the fear of enemies. Suffering from being killed, slaughtered, and enslaved, Thinking of the state of animals, it is unbearable. Even being born as a human is only suffering, Strife, conflict, poverty, and loss. The suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death is beyond comprehension. Even if one obtains the sovereignty of a wheel-turning king, one is born in hell. There is no certainty in high or low status, wealth or poverty. Even if one obtains the realms of gods and demigods, the form realm, and the formless realm, There is no certainty, and one goes to the lower realms. Death, transmigration, strife, and so on are abundant sufferings. This is the first chapter on suffering. All those sufferings, Are not without cause, but arise from karma. Due to the power of sin, one goes to the lower realms. Unspecified actions have no ripening. It is said that virtue leads to going to higher realms. The world is painted by the brush of karma. Therefore, strive to engage in what should be adopted and abandon what should be rejected. Do not despise even small virtues and small sins. What is the benefit of going to solitary places when the red wind of the desire for fame is not calmed?
