Instructions to Zla ri ba Grags bzang Namo Guruwe! I prostrate to the precious feet of the Lama. If you, my son, intend to go to the upper part of Ngari (Ali, Tibet), I offer this precious rosary of the sacred Dharma as a gift. This human body with leisure and opportunity, which is difficult to find, will not last even a hundred years, and there is no certainty even for tonight. Therefore, before the tasks of this life are finished, generate a sense of renunciation, thinking, 'I will die.' There is no happiness in the three lower realms, and even if born as a god or human, there is suffering. Wherever one stays, it is like a prison; whoever one associates with is like a prison guard; all enjoyments are like prison possessions. Think, 'When will I ever be liberated from this?' All these beings who were once our mothers, wandering in samsara, are truly pitiable. It is not enough for oneself to be comfortable, so now, to attain Buddhahood, generate a strong mind of enlightenment and strive to practice. Even if I have to go to hell myself, I will not harm others. Even if offered a kingdom as a reward, I will not abandon the supreme mind of enlightenment, and no matter what important things happen, I will not forget the mind of benefiting others. Like an arrow shot, like a vow as solid as a rocky mountain, one needs courage like a lion. With great compassion, pray with reverence to the Lama and the Yidam, who possess compassionate blessings. Treat the sick like doctors, the lost blind like guides, and maintain a mind of equanimity. Renunciation, compassion, and devotion are the ultimate preliminary instructions. When practicing the true nature, even if one is well-versed in scripture and reasoning, without the essential instructions, one will not hit the mark. The body should be in the meditation posture, the speech should be silent and left in its natural state, and the mind should be uncorrected and left in its own place. Do not be distracted, and keep the balance between tension and relaxation. Whatever arises, seize it with the sentinel of mindfulness. Appearances are unceasing and arise anywhere, but their nature is unestablished and nothing at all. The intention of all Buddhas is definitely this alone. One's own mind is the Dharmakaya, the path to be taken. The appearance of emptiness is unceasing; externally, transform the environment and its contents into deities. Know that whatever is heard is mantra. Internally, visualize one's own body as the Yidam deity, know that whatever is spoken is mantra, and meditate on whatever is thought as illusion. Transform food and drink into nectar, clothes into divine garments, and whatever one does into Dharma practice. Appearance is the path of the Sambhogakaya. When happy, pray for the happiness of all beings; when suffering, take on

First, generate (good intention). Dedicate all the good deeds done for the benefit of others. Actions are taking the path of the incarnate body. The main practice is taking the path of the three bodies. From now until enlightenment is attained, it is absolutely necessary to have this life. At all times, strongly cultivate the aspiration to be inseparable from the sacred Dharma. In all actions, seize and practice with the iron hook of mindfulness, and constantly practice without separation. All roots of virtue, Dharma practice, and meditation, whatever is done, dedicate it as the cause for attaining Buddhahood, and after attaining Buddhahood, also pray with strong aspiration to place all sentient beings in the unsurpassed supreme enlightenment. Abandonment, mindfulness, and dedication, these three are the ultimate subsequent practice. Please practice all phenomena, both with and without elaboration, single-mindedly from the state of non-elaboration. Do not cling to anything, practice like Soma. What has been said many times before, this essence also brings joy. This was said by Tāranātha. May there be auspiciousness! Advice to Drak Sang of Zariwa. Intimate advice to Zawa Ripa Drakpa Sangpo. Homage to the Guru)! I, the wandering yogi Gyalkhampa, cannot fully express my experiences. What will happen if I say a few words? If it does not suit your mind, please put it aside! This food named Guru Puja is the only cause of destroying oneself. Is it not better to live in solitude? This virtuous practice without defined boundaries has not gone beyond false goodness, is it not better to discern carefully? Even if one obtains Dharma from an unknown lineage, blessings and accomplishments will not arise, is it not better to meet at the crucial moment? Small wisdom and great doubts, this is a sign of not generating faith, is it not better to eliminate doubts? This unchangeable action is a demon that wastes life, is it not better to completely abandon it? The monastery that runs around for town rituals is a householder named a practitioner, is it not better to go to empty places? Having noisy wealth in a solitary place, staying in a monastery is meaningless, is it not better to practice single-mindedly? In short, putting everything that is remembered into action will shame the gods, demons, and humans, is it not better to integrate all things single-mindedly? Merely clinging to words is a good clinging that transcends meaning, is it not better to abandon words?
