I also ran away. In winter, I would go out at dawn, and in summer, I had to endure the scorching heat at noon. All those who persisted in morning exercises would tighten their belts, put on thick clothes, and go out to exercise, never rolling around in bed. Although the lamas and khenpos cherished their love for us in their hearts, in order to eliminate our faults and put us on the right path, they would always scold us, and sometimes even hit us. But we not only endured all this, but were also very happy, knowing that they were very kind to us. From that time on, in the Wood Dragon year (uncertain, possibly referring to a specific time), I pretended to be in retreat in Samding (place name), hid it from others, changed my clothes into beggar's clothes, and went to many springs and charnel grounds. About two and a half months passed, and I circled about twenty charnel grounds. In the Labrang (monastery building), Zantan Nise (person's name) observed me in various ways, as if he were delivering tsampa. There were no other companions. People like Akhu-la (person's name) and all the other companions didn't understand, but I didn't listen to anyone. That holy lama and Rinpoche khenpo, although he usually scolded me, this time said, "A practitioner should be like this, it's really amazing!" and was extremely happy. The visions and miracles that appeared at that time were unimaginable, how could they be expressed in words? I wanted to go to one hundred and eight charnel grounds, but because of the title of "Living Buddha," I couldn't do it later. When I was sick, I was also very tolerant. When doing virtuous deeds, I was almost always weak at night, tormented by many illnesses. Due to the force of karma, I often suffered from rheumatism and other diseases, and later my body became very weak. But until now, I am almost always weak at night, and I am very tolerant of cold, hunger, and thirst. Among the lamas and khenpos, everyone knows that it is most difficult to serve me. If it were only necessary to do some trivial things like serving other lamas, then I am not the kind of person who needs to be served by others. From this, it can be seen that others think that I have been wasting the monastery's property since I was a child, and that I am a great benefactor. But in general, from the perspective of Dharma, I have not attained great paths and stages, nor have I practiced according to the Dharma.

If it weren't so, I would have boasted long ago that I am very capable. This is an example that conforms to worldly customs. Among the monks and laypeople, big and small, who now bear the title of great lama, there is no one more incorruptible than me. My own mind is the witness, and those who know the story are also witnesses. Initially, when I was serving as the Gyael Kham Po (equivalent to the Dharma King), I never accepted valuable possessions. Tea, silk, cloth, wool, etc., were only exchanged. The remaining small amount of wealth was offered to the temples in Lhasa (Lhasa) and other places, as well as to the Sangha from all directions. Later, when a small amount of power was obtained according to ability, if it was necessary to dress properly like a monk, then after offsetting income and expenditure, it was only that more was given out and nothing was taken in. Occasionally, one or two exchanges might have a slight surplus, but I don't remember. Even if food, clothing, and Dharma are provided, it is still not enough, and they still want this and that, and some people even act recklessly. In order to win over patrons and other worldly people, some exchanges may be made, but that is only a very small number of cases. At other times, it is all given by myself. From the past to the present, I have not been tainted by the wealth of monks and patrons. My wealth has not flowed into the hands of monks and others. All kinds of items, large and small, given by various influential patrons at different times, have all been used for virtuous deeds, which is clear for all to see. In general, it is difficult not to be greedy for wealth, like many other lamas. Those fanatics who are driven by prejudice and ignorance, not to mention themselves or the sects to which they belong, deceive everyone and do everything possible to send all the property of the living and the dead to the lama or monastery. I am not that kind of monk, nor that kind of fanatical believer. Most lamas think that way and work hard in that way, but I have never used that kind of method. Therefore, I have not been tainted by any wealth of believers or the dead. There may occasionally be some small income, but I have tried my best to do some virtuous deeds. It's like the example of Acharya Svaraka (Sanskrit: Śvārakā). A sinner in one day, hundreds, thousands, millions, billions...
