Fourth, relying on tranquility to seek the basis of cutting through. Fifth, relying on insight to observe the essence of reality. Sixth, relying on subsequent cultivation to bring freedom from elaboration to the ultimate end. First, thoroughly investigate the three sources of arising, dwelling, and ceasing: For each one, practice both analytical meditation and stabilizing meditation. First, regarding the source of the mind, contemplate the external appearances, such as the outer and inner worlds, the environment and beings, earth, stones, mountains, rocks, plants, forests, hills, and foothills. In short, from where does it arise? How does it arise? How does it appear to arise? Investigate with wisdom. Examine and meditate on this thoroughly. Then, regarding your own body, from top to bottom, limbs, organs, all internal and external aspects, where does it reside? How does it reside? Examine it carefully. Then, engage in stabilizing meditation, placing the mind well upon itself. Do not think of irrelevant things, do not be ignorant. From where does this mind arise? What is its nature? Examine yourself well. In this way, the lama should know through clairvoyance and thoroughly investigate all places of dwelling and going. Especially for beginners, a decisive conclusion should be made. Furthermore, what are the reasons why this true nature of Dharmakaya wanders and is confused in the six realms? What is its essence, color, shape, and characteristics? Have them examined thoroughly. During these times, the lama should be skilled in asking questions and guiding. Furthermore, how do the moving thoughts arise? From where do they arise? Are they established as real or not? If they are established, how are they established? If they are not established, are they empty, or how are they? Examine them carefully. Then, if they are established, what are their characteristics, form, and color? If they are empty, how are they empty? Are they empty like the sky, or are they empty like the wind and rock crevices? Or how are they empty? Examine them carefully. Then, are mind and thought one or different? If they are one, why do appearance and emptiness, abiding and moving, arise separately? When they separate, from where do they separate? From where does the root of delusion arise? Who created self and other? Examine all of these carefully. In this way, continue to examine until a clear and decisive question arises. Then, the lama introduces: originally without arising is Dharmakaya, without dwelling is Sambhogakaya, without coming and going is Nirmanakaya. Furthermore, the unceasing potential is one's own mind, the mind is empty, appearance and emptiness are non-dual, spontaneously accomplished union. In short, all of samsara and nirvana are self-aware, self-arising wisdom. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will introduce liberation. This is a state of emptiness, not an emptiness like the sky, nor an emptiness of annihilation like wind or rocks. It is not an emptiness without objects and subjects, without colors, without characteristics, without forms, but it is not complete nothingness. It has unobstructed awareness and self-illumination, a naked, clear self-awareness. It is a definitive self-nature that cannot be defined as 'this' or 'that'. After such thorough discernment, in order to forcibly introduce the unique characteristics shared by all Dzogchen lineages here, one should choose a secluded and pleasant mountaintop, open meadow, island, or forest, away from human sight. On a high throne covered with silk, the lama should be adorned with magnificent silk robes, wearing a lotus hat, with an umbrella above and banners and victory banners around. The yogis should practice as in Lama Yoga, offering gold and silver mandalas to the lama, and torma offerings to the dakinis and protectors. Then, the disciples should have unwavering faith and devotion, regarding the lama as the actual Buddha, reciting prayers, circumambulating and prostrating hundreds and thousands of times, and reciting the Vajrasattva mantra. Then, offer the lama seven gold mandalas, seven medicine mandalas, and seven grain mandalas, with tears of devotion, constantly praying and striving without ceasing. After that, in front of the lama, all should sit in the seven-point posture, keeping the body straight and maintaining mindfulness. After praying to the lama, receive the four empowerments from the four places of the lama, and contemplate that the realization, blessings, and compassion of the lama's body, speech, and mind are instantly transferred to one's own body, speech, and mind, generating reverence from the depths of one's heart. The lama should also strongly visualize that the blessings of his realization are transferred to the disciples' mindstreams. Then, introduce it thus: 'Oh, sons of noble family, do not let the thoughts of the past and future scatter.' Even for a moment, 'Do not be deceived by the discriminating awareness that expects clarity, do not cling to the experience of clarity, do not cling to stillness, do not cling to movement. Do not cling to the appearances of the six consciousnesses, let them appear naturally in the clear emptiness, and rest in that clear emptiness.'
