East, Dhṛtarāṣṭra (Holder of the Realm) sits in his place, each with their retinue, and all the Arhats, adorned with the conduct of taming the senses. Among the four gates, the eastern gate is guarded by Dhṛtarāṣṭra, white in color, holding a pipa; the southern gate is guarded by Virūḍhaka (Increaser), blue in color, holding a sword; the western gate is guarded by Virūpākṣa (Wide-Eyed), red in color, holding a snake lasso; the northern gate is guarded by Vaiśravaṇa (All-Hearing), yellow in color, holding a victory banner. All the guardians are majestic in heavenly garments and armor, sitting in the posture of a king on a moon seat, dedicated to protecting the Dharma. Inside the eastern gate, on a lotus moon seat, the noble great Upāsaka Dharmatāla holds a whisk and a vase in his hands, his hair tied in a topknot, carrying many volumes of scriptures, with Buddha Amitābha residing in the space in front of him, wearing flowing silk robes, with a manifestation of a tiger pack from his right knee, together with the Upāsaka's retinue. In addition, in the space in front, the Guru, the virtuous spiritual friend, the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Śrāvakas, Arhats, and countless holy beings manifestly reside. Having visualized this clearly, next is the ritual of bathing: First, arrange the bathing utensils, the bathing room is extremely fragrant, the crystal ground is bright and shining, with delightful jewel pillars, and curtains decorated with strings of pearls. Here, with many precious vases filled with scented water, accompanied by beautiful songs and music, bathe the Tathāgatas and their children. Thus pray: 'Just as the gods bathed the Buddha at the time of his birth with pure heavenly water, likewise, I also bathe the Buddha with pure water. This is a supreme and auspicious bath, it is the water of unsurpassed compassion, may it grant me all desired attainments with the water of blessing and wisdom.' 'Although the supreme body, speech, and mind of the Buddhas have no defilements of afflictions, in order to purify the obscurations of oneself and others' three doors, I bathe them with pure water.' Thus bathe. Wipe the Buddha's body with incomparable clean and exquisite garments. Although there are no stains to remove, with a faithful heart, offer robes of reddish-yellow color, may all beings equal to the extent of space practice the supreme discipline of the Buddha. 'Out of compassion for me and all beings, by your power of miraculous abilities, as long as I make offerings, may the Bhagavan remain here.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
