In order to enter a womb with special qualities, one should visualize the Lama (Guru) as father and mother, receive the four empowerments, and receive the wisdom seed (Tibetan: རིག་པ་ས་བོན།), mudras, etc., abiding in the root Vajradhara (Tibetan: རྒྱུའི་རྡོ་རྗེ་འཛིན་པ་), entering the mouth of the father. The body form passes through the lotus pond of the mother, transforming into the complete Heruka (Tibetan: ཧེ་རུ་ཀར་), residing in the palace of the mother's womb for nine months and ten days, completing the ten bhumis (stages). Being born from the womb, possessing seven qualities, and obtaining the eighteen qualities of leisure and endowment, this person, awakened by the aspiration of previous practice, encounters profound instructions at the ages of thirteen, eighteen, twenty-one, twenty-eight, etc., and by practicing them, will undoubtedly attain the state of union in this lifetime. For ordinary people without instructions, the Bardo of Dharmata (Tibetan: ཆོས་ཉིད་ཀྱི་བར་དོ་) will appear in about seven moments, or even in the time it takes to eat a mouthful of food, but they will not recognize it. The three—sound, light, and rays—and the light of peaceful and wrathful deities, all appearances arise as enemies, causing them to remain in a state of unconsciousness for five days. Awakening from this unconsciousness, on the gray death ground, before Yama (Lord of Death), the visions of good and bad karma being separated will appear. Those with heavy negative karma may even fall into a pit of butter during this time. After that, the Sipa Bardo (Bardo of Existence) (Tibetan: སྲིད་པ་བར་དོ་) arises, lasting for about twenty-one days, and the lights and visions of the six realms of rebirth will appear in sequence. Generally speaking, according to a rough description, the Bardo of Dharmata lasts for seven days, the Bardo of Sound and Light lasts for five days, the Bardo of Fear lasts for five days, the Bardo of Space lasts for five days, the vision of drowning in water lasts for five days, the vision of being pressed by earth lasts for five days, the vision of being scattered by wind lasts for five days, the vision of being burned by fire lasts for five days, and the vision of wandering in darkness lasts for five days. During these times, if one strives in virtuous deeds such as the forty-nine-day ceremony, it is said that one will be reborn in higher realms because this is a crucial moment for transforming karma. In general, the views of the new and old Tantras differ, and even within the Nyingma (Old Translation) school, there are various ways of classifying and explaining the Bardo. Because the capacities of beings to be tamed are different, the methods of taming them are taught in various ways, and in any case, there will be no conflict. For the instructions that one is familiar with and accustomed to, due to the habitual tendencies that are in accordance with one's karma, the corresponding appearances will naturally arise, so one should not be attached to one aspect. Thus, the profound Bardo instructions of the Great Bliss Heart Essence Mahamudra (Tibetan: བདེ་ཆེན་སྙིང་པོ་ཕྱག་རྒྱ་ཆེའི།), and the four Bardos of the Great Perfection (Dzogchen) (Tibetan: རྫོགས་ཆེན་) are not contradictory.
