Offerings, and in order to accomplish the supreme and genuine attainments, to dispel obstacles, one should also recite Vajrakila a hundred times, etc. In the evening, perform the secret Chöd (gSang gCod), and contemplate the aims of offering the aggregates (phung po) as food for the hungry ghosts. At the end of that, recite the Samantabhadra's Prayer, etc. At midnight, dissolve the deity's mandala of the generation stage into the completion stage. Visualize the syllable Oṃ clearly at the throat, and then perform the stages of absorption, and bring the experiences of appearance, increase, and attainment (snang mched thob gsum) to the point of subtle clear light (srab mo'i 'od gsal). If visions appear in dreams, then engage in holding, training, increasing, transforming, etc. Or, let the clear light of deep sleep (gnyid 'thug gi 'od gsal) remain in its natural state. In general, 'subtle clear light' means that external appearances have not ceased, and internal sensations do not follow external objects, but remain in a state of clear awareness. 'Thick clear light' is like a lamp burning inside a vase, where external appearances have ceased, and the mind itself remains in a state of clear, empty luminosity. The former is the clear light of experience, and the latter is the clear light of realization, or the spontaneously present clear light (lhun grub kyi 'od gsal) of the bardo (intermediate state), which are the same in essence. In this way, this practice of a single day and night contains all the essential points of the stages of the path of glorious Yangdak (supreme deity). The practice of taking the bardo into the path (bar do'i lam khyer) involves, for the three bardos of birth, death, and dharmata (chos nyid bardo), severing elaborations through study and contemplation of the instructions, clarifying the meaning in the mind, and integrating it into experience. Therefore, it is no different from the general meaning of the texts. One must ascertain in one's mind the forms of the bardo as described in the texts. This was written by Dharma Svāmī at the request of the monk Ngagwang Padma, a vajra holder (rdo rje 'dzin pa) possessing the three qualities (sum ldan). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
