Lineage Three Roots Lama, Rainbow Body Vajra Form, Emanation of the Inexhaustible Ornament Wheel. May the Ati Yoga practice lineage flourish auspiciously! Saṃsāra and Nirvāṇa perfected in the ground, the fruit Dharma exhausted in the expanse of emptiness. Great Bliss, Unmoving Liberation Continent, the joyful and blissful pure land. May these six types of beings, in the stainless clear light, Be protected day and night in happiness and auspiciousness! Thus, at the end, receive the four empowerments, and rest in the state where the Lama and one's own mind are inseparable. Afterwards, dedicate the roots of virtue to supreme Bodhi, etc., each added at the end. To maintain the state of original purity, beyond mind, vast and unobstructed, naturally liberated, and spontaneously present, like a flowing river or the tip of a flame, is extremely important. Therefore, these are the preliminary stages that are both common and uncommon. Third, the main point of the actual stage: the generation stage and the completion stage. First, the aspect of the generation stage: outer practice, inner practice, secret practice, and very secret practice, etc., as explained in the scriptures. If abbreviated, it is sufficient to practice only the session without elaboration. Thus, the aspects of the generation stage have passed. Second, regarding the aspect of the completion stage: mainly teaching the method of making the mind that does not abide, abide; and making it stable when it abides; and making it increase when it is stable. First, the reason why the method of making the mind that does not abide, abide, is necessary: from the time when saṃsāra and nirvāṇa turned their backs on each other, due to attachment to individual appearances, now their habitual tendencies are strong. The six consciousnesses of the eye to form, the ear to sound, the nose to smell, the tongue to taste, the body to touch, etc., the doors of the objects have not been closed. The three poisons of greed, hatred, and delusion accumulate karma on the ālaya consciousness and the afflicted mind, becoming the cause of being born in the three realms and six realms. The oral instructions for preventing these proximate causes: for those of sharp faculties, the profound meaning of Mahā Ati; for those of medium faculties, the profound meaning of Mahāmudrā; for those of lesser faculties, the profound meaning of Mahāmādhyamika. Resting in equanimity in that understanding, the ignorance of thoughts and habitual tendencies becomes rotten wood, the darkness of clinging dissipates, and the self-nature of self-awareness arises, thereby uprooting saṃsāra from its depths. Among them, first, the guidance for making the mind that does not abide, abide: resting on external objects, śamatha (止,calm abiding) with signs. Relying on pieces of wood and stones to rest, Mahā Muni (大能仁,great sage), Avalokiteśvara (观世音,the one who perceives the sounds of the world), Ogyen (乌金,the place name) etc., whichever deity of the tantric class is practiced, relying on them, not allowing the object of focus to wander elsewhere. This is the method of generating śamatha, so initially, one must generate signs of accomplishment in this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Furthermore, attachment to hateful enemies, loving friends, and any place to which one becomes attached and fixated, is said to greatly hinder the path if it leads to mental clinging. Secondly, regarding the methods for settling and stabilizing the mind, in signless calm abiding (shamatha), one relies on sinking, excitement, and scattering. To equally settle the mind in its essence, first, in the case of sinking, awareness does not scatter anywhere, like the surface of a clear, cloudless sky, or like the water of a great ocean, without any movement. Externally, one does not perceive the passing of day and night; internally, one does not perceive the clarity or dimness of samadhi. This non-conceptual state that has become latent is sinking. At this time, one should focus intently on the state of sinking, settling equally within it. After a while, prompted by some good or bad circumstance, it will inevitably scatter. Allow the scattering awareness to naturally return to its own essence, thus eliminating the fault of sinking. Without letting the scattering awareness become reckless and uncontrolled, bring it to the point of merging clarity and emptiness. Similarly, 'fog' refers to a state where nothing appears, nothing is understood, and nothing is perceived, like that of a foolish person. This fog is moistened by calm abiding in the continuum, There are two types: one is being immersed in the inconceivable nature of reality, and the other is settling in one's own nature. The latter can be liberated as before by settling in one's own nature. For excitement and scattering, those with attachment can hold the mind through the five subtle energies of inner and secret profundity; those without attachment can use the unborn vajra recitation of the three syllables 'Om Ah Hum' (藏文:ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿ་ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:ओम् आः हूँ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ āḥ hūṃ,body, speech, and mind), and the vajra recitation that transforms speech into ultimate meaning, etc., applying them according to the situation. The essence of self-knowing awareness should be directed straight to its nature with a 'car' sound, maintaining the awareness that the seer and the seen are inseparable, without losing the strength of awareness. In short, whether with signs or without signs, one should focus on whatever key point is most suitable and practice it diligently. Based on these, how does one settle? First, like water flowing down a steep mountain, it flows violently and is unstable; second, like clouds in the south, it moves in waves; third, like a gentle stream of water, it relaxes naturally; fourth, like an ocean without waves, it does not move from the ground. Settling is stable in the midst of movement, and self-essence merges in non-duality, drawing near to the realization of the self-essence of the primordial purity of the ground luminosity. However, bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality can become obstacles on the path, so it is important to clearly recognize and remove them at this time. That is, one should recognize emptiness in appearance and appearance in emptiness.
