Better than meditating on a hundred thousand deities, Is a moment's remembrance of the Guru. This is a boundless field of merit, All mandalas are gathered, Into the mandala of the Guru. All the intentions of the Buddhas, Are gathered into the intentions of the Guru. If the Guru bestows blessings, All the Buddhas will bestow blessings. All mandalas will bestow empowerment. So it is said. Furthermore, in the Root Tantra of the Gathering of Vidyadharas, it says: Relying on colored powders, mirrors, vases, and tormas, etc., if a Guru who possesses all the qualities bestows blessings and empowerment, then one obtains the essence of all mandalas, the very nature of the Fourth Empowerment, all four empowerments. Therefore, more excellent than the three empowerments performed for children with attachment is the Fourth Empowerment of Meaning. The blessings of the vase empowerment, secret empowerment, wisdom empowerment, and wisdom-knowledge empowerment, and the empowerment of Meaning, directly enter the vision of Thod-rgal, and because one has the authority to meditate on the path of the meaning of the generation and completion stages, one receives empowerment through all or any of the four substances. A Guru who possesses the qualities is one who has certainly attained accomplishment, and empowerment arises from entering the root mandala. At this time, the one called Guru Padmasambhava of glorious Oddiyana, is the actual Guru who manifested from Buddha Amitabha to tame beings, and who spontaneously appeared in Jambudvipa. Just hearing his name liberates one from the lower realms and samsara. The qualities of his body are that he is not stained by the impurities of the womb, but spontaneously arose from a lotus stem, blazing with the glory of marks and signs. The qualities of his speech are that he turns the wheel of Dharma of outer, inner, and secret teachings in accordance with the inclinations of those to be tamed. The qualities of his mind are that he has reached the end of the ocean of wisdom, samadhi, and clairvoyance, knowing all knowable things as they are and as many as there are. The great qualities are that he has completely perfected all the Buddha's unmixed qualities, such as the ten powers and four fearlessnesses. The great activity is that he benefits all sentient beings in all realms with emanations that tame them accordingly, and the four activities are spontaneously accomplished. He remains until samsara is empty, like a wish-fulfilling jewel accomplishing the benefit of others. In the past, immeasurable eons ago, he manifested enlightenment as the teacher of the Dharmakaya, Kuntuzangpo. Now, in the western pure land of Sukhavati, he abides in the form of the Sambhogakaya, Amitabha. Seeing that the beings of Jambudvipa are fit to be tamed, from the heart of Amitabha, a ray of light emanated, and at the tip of the light appeared a light-child with marks and signs.
