Like myself, with the power of spiritual skill, I have clearly transcribed this onto yellow paper. May it be auspicious! From the heart essence of Orgyen Padmasambhava (Lotus-Born), and the continuous practice of the mind commitment of the Vidyadhara fathers and sons, comes the Sadhana (method of accomplishment) of Avalokiteśvara (the one who perceives the world's sounds) Namkhai Gyalpo (King of Space). Jewel in the lotus! Hum! Hrih!). Great Compassionate Avalokiteśvara, I pay homage to the Yidam deity! Like myself, Padmasambhava, for the sake of sentient beings in this degenerate age, and for the mind commitment of the Vidyadhara fathers and sons, I have composed the Sadhana of Avalokiteśvara. In the future, may my spiritual sons and daughters, upon encountering this, enable all beings without exception to attain enlightenment in one lifetime! Samaya (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Literal Chinese meaning: ), sealed, sealed, sealed! Great Compassionate Bhagavan (Blessed One), who tames beings, I prostrate to you! This profound and extraordinary heart essence of the Noble One, the method of accomplishment has three parts: First, the preliminary practice of taking refuge and generating Bodhicitta (the mind of enlightenment); second, from the state of emptiness, for all sentient beings of the six realms, cultivate the compassion of exchanging self and others; From the state of emptiness and compassion, from the syllable པཾ་ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Literal Chinese meaning: ) arises a lotus with a thousand petals, upon which is a white lunar disc, and upon that is one's own awareness in the form of the white syllable ཧྲཱིཿ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Literal Chinese meaning: ). From the syllable ཧྲཱིཿ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Literal Chinese meaning: ) emanates light, offering to please the Buddhas of the ten directions, purifying the karmic obscurations of all sentient beings, and gathering back, dissolving into the ཧྲཱིཿ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Literal Chinese meaning: ), one's own being becomes the Bhagavan Avalokiteśvara. He is the embodiment of all Buddhas, with eleven faces, the root face being white, radiating light, gazing with compassion upon the six realms of sentient beings. The right and left faces are green and red respectively, guiding and liberating beings from the hell and preta (hungry ghost) realms. The central face is red, the right green, and the left white, blocking the womb entrances of asuras (demi-gods), humans, and animals, guiding them to the path of liberation. The central face is green, the right white, and the left red, blocking the birthplaces of the gods, transferring them to the realm of great bliss and liberating them. The wrathful smoky-colored face, terrifying all beings, places them in the realm of light. The face on top is the color of vermillion, the Buddha and Lama (teacher) Amitābha (Infinite Light), gazing with a smiling face, leading beings into the Lotus family. The root hands are joined in prayer, the second right hand holds a crystal rosary, and the left hand holds a white Utpala (blue lotus) flower, held in a manner resembling an eagle soaring. The remaining ten hands on the right hold a vajra (diamond scepter), jewel, lotus, sword, arrow, water pot, rope, Utpala flower, Dharma wheel, and crossed vajra. The remaining ten hands on the left hold the sword of wisdom, scriptures, a book, Utpala flower, pearl, rosary, vajra bell, staff, stupa (reliquary tower), parbu (ritual dagger), and Dharma wheel. Both feet are placed straight, standing still. Adorned with the thirty-two major marks of the Sambhogakaya (enjoyment body), in the manner of the lunar seal. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5-1-9b
