Blood Bile Due to seepage, bile increases, along with saliva, muscles, skin, and edema. Its essence is called bile seepage water. With moist cold purgatives, bloodletting, cooling agents, and ash preparations, the stomach fire dies, and cold water, thin porridge, and mucus, along with drinking yogurt, cheese, tea, etc., remain undigested. The path of essence is lost, unwilling to turn into nourishment. Seeping into the vessels, it generates cold edema. Essence seepage water turns into cold water. As before, due to the loss of stomach fire heat, undigested phlegm blocks the essence vessel openings. Undigested essence remains in the stomach for a long time. The stomach heat is lost, like a new jar filled with water. Sweat seeping out is the stomach seepage water. The previous undigested essence falls into the colon. The colon becomes full and seeps, which is colon seepage water. Undigested essence and stagnant blood fall onto the liver. The liver becomes full and swollen with blood, the liver heat is lost and rots, which is liver seepage. Likewise, what arises from the spleen is spleen water. Undigested essence and bad blood circulate in the lungs. Edema fills and accumulates in the lungs, falling onto the liver fat, seeping onto the organs. This is said to be lung seepage water. Undigested essence and increased bad blood circulate in the vessels of the liver, spleen, liver fat, stomach, colon, and small intestine, causing vessel openings, blood gas, and vascular tumors to entangle. After becoming old, the blood dissolves and ruptures, and the vessel openings open. This is called vascular tumor seepage water. Undigested essence, stagnant blood, and toxic blood cause the liver and spleen to enlarge, forming blood clot tumors. After becoming old, the tumor dissolves, which is blood tumor seepage water. Undigested essence's bad blood edema increases, circulating in the vessels, causing vessel openings to flood with edema. Its rupture is water tumor seepage water. The small intestine becomes stagnant or has colic, causing bone pain. The small intestine's essence is depleted, and after becoming old, it rots and ruptures. Feces and urine leak out, which is called intestinal rupture water. Furthermore, due to improper conduct, being afflicted by evil spirits, or due to poisoning, it can turn into water. However, improper treatment of all diseases leads to flooding, turning into ascites, and old ascites turns into dropsy. In short, wind, bile, and phlegm water can be categorized into hot water and cold water. The location of water is in three places: outer, inner, and middle. Outer water is on the surface of the muscles, middle water is located in between, and inner water floats on top of the large and small intestines. Middle water pervades under the skin and on top of the muscles. These are its general and specific signs.

There are two types of edema. The general signs are that it initially begins and matures in the middle stage, and finally, when it reaches its peak, one observes whether it leads to life or death. In the initial stage, there is little strength, the stomach droops, breathing is rough, the heart bears a heavier burden, the ability to digest food is small, the tongue and lips turn white, walking is difficult, and the whole body is swollen. Above the knees, in front of the calves, edema gathers in sixteen places. The stomach, below the chest, the face, eyelids, and the eight cities of water move and swell. In the middle stage of maturation, edema fills the whole body. There are lumps behind the body, making a thumping and crackling sound. In the final stage of development, there are two types: hot edema and cold edema. In hot edema, the pulse is tight, the urine color is red or yellow, there is coughing, the eyes turn yellow, and the nostrils flare. The edema is large, covered with veins, and the limbs are thin and dry, like a hungry ghost. In cold edema, the pulse is slow, the urine is bluish, thirst is not obvious, the stomach is bloated, there is diarrhea, and the head, body, and limbs are significantly swollen, leaving marks after pressing. It is large and rough, like a protector deity. If cold edema lasts for a long time, the edema will spread to the lungs and heart, and the liver will be submerged in water, leading to rapid death. If hot edema can subside, there will be no death, and one can live long. If the edema is deep inside, that is where life resides, and death will come quickly. The signs of death are loss of appetite, vomiting, frequent coughing, yellowing of the eyes, shortness of breath, severe thirst, red or yellow urine that is thick and scant, depletion of essence and blood, and loss of physical strength, and one should abandon treatment. If breathing is slow, appetite is good, thirst is not obvious, there is no pain, the body is light, the whites of the eyes are clear, the urine is bluish, the pulse is stable, and physical strength is strong, one can survive. Specifically, distinguish between clear fluid, bloody fluid, and water. If the pulse is tight, the urine is red, the body is heavy, and there is loss of appetite, there are slight stabbing pains in the upper chest and on both sides of the ribs. When bleeding, the bad blood that flows out is thin like water and yellow. Clear fluid transforms into bile, causing hiccups, and the lungs and heart are disturbed, there is loss of appetite, and when full, the stomach is like a pond. Tears turn yellow, and diarrhea will discharge bile. Clear fluid transforms into water, and swelling is like a bucket. The pulse is deep and thin, the urine is bluish, the heart is disturbed, and the stomach is like a pond. In these three cases, initially it is edema on the surface of the body, and over time it will develop into edema inside the body. Initially, the liver starts to have increased secretions from the right side. The pulse is tight, the urine is red, and if it develops deeply, there will be diarrhea. The edema is large, the veins are obvious, and the limbs are dry. Increased secretions from the spleen start from the left side. Inside the edema, the spleen is as hard as a stone, the stomach is bloated, there is diarrhea, and the ability to digest is weakened. Increased secretions from the lungs will lead to frequent coughing, and the lungs and heart are disturbed. After eating, the stomach does not
