It also exists in many places, and it is said that the Hearer's path, after obtaining the forbearance of the path of application, is irreversible. To abandon anger, one must first abandon resentment, that is, "I was insulted by this person, beaten, defeated, this person stole my property." Thus, harboring resentment will give rise to disputes, and abandoning resentment will lead to peaceful sleep. This person openly insulted me, attacked me with harsh words, this person hit me, beat me, this person defeated me through words and strife, this person stole my property, etc., there are a total of nine kinds of vexed feelings, that is, "This person has harmed me, is harming me, will harm me; this person has harmed my relatives and friends and those related to me, is harming, will harm; this person has helped my enemies, is helping, will help," etc., keeping these in mind, harboring resentment due to anger and hatred, thereby causing disputes and quarrels, one must abandon these, sleep peacefully, etc., in all actions, one must completely abandon resentment and abide in peace. After observing one's own and others' actions, cautiously advise, among which, after observing one's own actions, cautiously teach, divided into teaching cautiously by observing the actions of the mind and teaching cautiously by observing the actions of speech. The first is: the mind is like water, earth, and stone, understand it like a picture drawn on them. Therefore, for those with afflictions, the first is the best, for those who desire the Dharma, the last is the best. The word "mind" has many usages, but here it refers to attention. For attention, there is also unstable attention like drawing on water, slightly stable attention like drawing on the ground, and very stable attention like drawing on stone, these three. One must understand the classification of the mind represented by these three examples. Each of these three also has three kinds of attention: virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral, although there are three of each, but from the perspective of acceptance and rejection, there are only two kinds: virtuous and non-virtuous. For non-virtuous, one must prevent the afflicted mind from arising in the first place, and even if it arises, one must quickly abandon it, because afflic-

Generating afflicted thoughts in the mind is the first; making them as unstable as drawing on water is the best. Those who desire Dharma, that is, generating virtuous thoughts in the mind, are the last; making them as firm as drawing on stone is the best. Therefore, one should examine one's own mental conduct and learn accordingly. Examining the behavior of speech and learning with mindfulness is: What pleases the hearts of the victors and the truth, and the words of beings with false speech, are like honey, flowers, and impure words. Among the three teachings, abandon the last. The Victorious Buddha himself said that there are three kinds of speech for beings to accept or reject: speech that is not related to non-virtue, speech that pleases the mind, is the speech that pleases the heart. Tasting it brings joy, like honey. The words of truth, the teachings of the Dharma, the cause and effect of samsara and the cause and effect of liberation, that is, the conventional truth of the four truths, the uninterrupted dependent origination, and the ultimate truth, emptiness, the teachings free from elaboration, the words of truth are stainless, for example, the lotus flower does not get stained by mud and does not accumulate water. Those who have false speech, for those whose minds have not been changed by sectarian views, are words related to afflictions. And the perverted words changed by the wrong views of non-Buddhists and others are extremely reprehensible, therefore, like impure things. Among these three, one should abandon the last kind of speech like impure things, and speech like honey is the ordinary place to be accepted or rejected. The words of truth, the true teachings of the Dharma, are the best place to be accepted or rejected. Therefore, observe how your own three kinds of speech change, and also speak words like honey, and you must speak words like flowers. The method of learning by observing the behavior of oneself and others: From light to the end of light, from darkness to, the end of darkness, and from light to the end of darkness. From darkness to the end of light, all these afflictions are, four, that is, these.
