And laziness. Manifest pride, desire, hatred, and lineage, appearance, learning, youth 21-646 And, arrogance due to great power, regard as enemies. From the harm of the nine afflictions, one should protect one's mind. Stinginess is attachment to previously owned objects and utensils, unable to give to others; deceit is pretending to have qualities that one does not possess, thereby deceiving others; illusion is concealing one's own faults, thereby deceiving others. Attachment, which is called "Lobha" (藏文:ལོ་བྷ་,梵文天城体:लोभ,梵文罗马拟音:lobha,汉语字面意思:Greed), is not knowing contentment. Not knowing contentment with enjoyment, craving enjoyment, being attached and clinging; laziness is sloth. Regarding the Dharma, being lazy when first entering, and even after entering, not striving to complete it, becoming lazy. Manifest pride is being proud of having qualities that one does not possess. Desire is the desire of the three realms, among which is the desire of the desire realm. And for the desire of the desire realm, there is attachment to one's own aggregates, attachment to dwelling places, and attachment to desirable qualities. Among these, the basis for immediately generating all faults is attachment to desirable qualities. Hatred is anger associated with harmful intent. Being arrogant due to high lineage, associated with this is looking down on others and considering oneself superior, a haughty mind. Similarly, being arrogant due to beautiful appearance, and due to learning and flourishing youth, and being proud due to great power, becoming very conceited, this is arrogance. These nine afflictions constantly harm oneself, so they are like enemies. Just as one guards against enemies and destroys them, these afflictions should also, not be kept in the mind, but when they arise, they should be completely destroyed with antidotes, and should be regarded as enemies. Through understanding benefits and faults, the advice is to act with mindfulness: mindfulness is the source of nectar, while carelessness, is the place of death, this is what the Muni has declared. Therefore, you, in order to increase virtue, should respectfully always maintain mindfulness. Some who were previously careless, later become mindful, and like, the moon free from clouds, are beautiful. Delightful, Angulimala, Seer, Benefit.

Thus it is. Mindfulness is the place of nectar or immortality. By diligently practicing mindfulness as the essence of Dharma, one is liberated from mental afflictions, attaining the state of liberation and immortality. Therefore, the state of immortality arises from mindfulness, hence mindfulness is called the place of immortality. As long as there is negligence, one will not attain the state of liberation and immortality. Negligence gives rise to afflictions, and afflictions give rise to the cycle of birth and death, therefore negligence is the place of death. This is the teaching of the Bhagavan Shakyamuni Buddha. As stated in the Sutra: Mindfulness is the place of immortality, negligence is the place of death. The mindful do not die, the negligent always die. The wise, through reason, understand these differences, and associate with mindfulness, greatly rejoicing in mindfulness, rejoicing in the realm of the noble ones. As the scriptures indicate, knowing what to adopt and abandon, and acting mindfully, all virtuous Dharmas will greatly increase. Therefore, O King, in order to increase your own virtuous Dharma, do not despise or abandon the Buddhas and the noble ones, but with great reverence, always be mindful of the Dharma, that is, act mindfully. If one has previously been negligent, is it useless to abide in mindfulness now? If one abides solely in mindfulness from the very beginning, that is of course very wonderful. But if that is not the case, even if one has previously been negligent, if one becomes mindful later, from the moment one becomes mindful, it will be beneficial and bring happiness to oneself, one's behavior will not be condemned by others, but will be praised and become beautiful. Just as the moon is initially obscured by clouds, but when the clouds dissipate, it immediately becomes bright, radiating light, and is very beautiful. For example, among those who were previously negligent and later became mindful, the one with strong attachment was the Buddha's brother Ananda, and with hatred

The greatly virtuous Angulimala and Maudgalyayana, namely King Ajatashatru who killed his father, and Devadatta who committed the five heinous crimes including killing his mother, later also acted cautiously with a sense of remorse, thereby obtaining the complete benefits they needed, just as they wished. In particular, the advice to be mindful in abandoning anger is: There is no asceticism equal to patience, You should not open the door of anger. By abandoning anger, one attains non-regression, Thus spoke the Buddha from his own mouth. Anger, that is, the antidote to hatred is patience, and there is no other asceticism equal to it. Enduring the asceticism of inflicting {གདུང་(Tibetan), स्तृ(Sanskrit Devanagari), str (Sanskrit Romanization), piercing} on the body, such as relying on five fires, fasting, and being naked, even those ascetics who are able to endure these are unable to endure the harm of others, and therefore there will be actions such as {དམོད་(Tibetan), शप(Sanskrit Devanagari), śapa (Sanskrit Romanization), cursing}. Therefore, patience that is indifferent to harm is the most difficult. And the asceticism of inflicting piercing on the body is without benefit, and will not become a method for eliminating sins and attaining liberation. Patience enables the qualities of the path to increase further, and is therefore the best of all the dharmas to be practiced. Therefore, do not allow the opposite of patience—anger—to arise in the continuum. If it arises, cut it off immediately and {བལྡོག་(Tibetan), प्रतिक्षिप्(Sanskrit Devanagari), pratikṣip (Sanskrit Romanization), avert} from anger. Therefore, never give anger a chance; not giving a chance means not giving it at all. In this way, by abandoning anger and abiding in the merit of patience, one will attain the state of non-regression, which is what the Buddha promised or taught. In the Vinaya Pitaka of the Hearers, it is said: "Bhikkhus, what is a Shramana who does not regress? A Brahmin and a Shramana who do not get angry, do not get extremely angry, do not hold grudges, completely abandon taking up sticks, completely abandon taking up weapons, that is a Shramana who does not regress." Thus it is said. If non-regression is considered from the perspective of the path of the Mahayana Bodhisattva, then from the Great Accumulation Path up to the Eighth Bhumi, the way and limits of attaining non-regression are established.
