Moreover, all karma and afflictions are the origin. Also, the affliction that connects to birth is {existence [craving] (Tibetan: སྲིད་[སྲེད་]པ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: bhava[tṛṣṇā], Sanskrit Roman transliteration: bhava[tṛṣṇā], literal Chinese meaning: existence [craving]) is called the attachment of joy.} Therefore, it is the cause of this suffering, the main and vast cause of all origins. Thus, the mind itself, free from elaboration, due to the power of the cessation of these three, karma, affliction, and suffering, is the truth of liberation, the cessation. The path to attain it is the Noble Eightfold Path. Among them, the main path is right view. The remaining meaning is: In order to see these Four Noble Truths, one must constantly strive. Even householders who embrace wealth can cross the river of afflictions through wisdom. One should meditate on the meaning of the Four Truths, which are mainly the meaning of selflessness, that is, the sixteen aspects. And, one must recognize that these three realms of samsara are suffering, abandon the origin of karma and afflictions, the cause of suffering, and one must attain the wisdom of the end of the exhaustion of all suffering, the cessation. Therefore, one must abandon the origin and learn the method of the path to attain cessation. Thus, in order to directly see the meaning of the Four Noble Truths, one must constantly make great effort, until {from [by] the Noble Path} has not arisen in the continuum, one must diligently strive. When the Noble Path is attained, qualities will naturally increase. Thus, by meditating on the meaning of the Four Truths, one will directly realize it, that is, by going forth from home to homelessness, abiding in discipline, being content with little desire, and those who live in solitude and are without distraction, can attain it through single-pointed meditation. If one thinks that it is not possible to realize the meaning by meditating a little, like us householders who are distracted by the affairs of royal politics, etc., that is not right. In the past, when the Buddha himself was alive, King Bimbisara, and the benefactor Anathapindika, etc., even those householders who enjoyed wealth and enjoyment, just as wealth resided in their own embrace, also increased right view and wisdom while enjoying sensual pleasures.

arises in the lineage and crosses the river of afflictions, thereby attaining the noble path. Furthermore, those who appeared in the past were those who had accumulated a great collection of merit and had sharp faculties. We, with little merit, cannot accomplish it in that way. If you say that, then those who have realized the Dharma, are not like crops that have fallen from the sky. They did not emerge from the womb of the earth, those in the past. They were only beings who relied on afflictions. Those who, as householders, with desirable qualities, have directly realized the meaning of the nature of reality, were not those who, from the very beginning, were self-established, with great merit, sharp faculties, who appeared without cause as if falling from the sky, or as if sprouts emerging from the ground. Those individuals in the past also initially relied on afflictions, that is, they were under the control of afflictions. Even if they were ordinary, dull-witted individuals, 21-739 by gradually becoming accustomed to the path of virtue, their minds matured, and later they became sharp-witted and saw the truth, so do not be discouraged. Now, the general meaning of all that has been said above is summarized as follows: O fearless one, what is the use of praying many times? This is the essential advice for benefit: Please tame your mind, O Bhagavan. It is said that the mind is the root of Dharma. Fearlessness means fear. The king is free from fear in this life because he possesses the power of the earth, and by abandoning evil and practicing virtue, he is also free from the fear of suffering in future lives. Therefore, calling the king "fearless," the teachings from the six recollections to the eightfold noble path and so on, are sufficient to show the meaning. Therefore, there is no need to say much to you now, and there is no need to pray. In short, the essence of the meaning of the instructions that, when relied upon in the mind, become the cause of benefit and happiness, is mainly to purify the afflictions of the mind. Therefore, O king, please tame your own mind. The Bhagavan said that taming the mind is the root of all Dharmas, because taming the mind is good. And, to completely tame one's own mind.
