Homage! Separated from earth, water, fire, wind, sun, and moon, that is to say, The naked [ones] of the heretics believe that there is a white city of liberation in the sky, and the Ishvara and Vishnu schools believe that the state of Ishvara and Vishnu is liberation, or that the manifestation of conditioned phenomena arising from what has arisen or will arise is liberation, may you attain the supreme liberation of the flawless space [of wisdom] that is not like that. The conditioned state desired by the heretics is not liberation, because it is transformed from arising phenomena and will eventually be destroyed. In the explanation of cause, meditation, and path, the instructions on the seven branches of enlightenment, the instructions on meditating on the twelve links of dependent origination, the instructions on the eightfold noble path, the first of which has the main text and the extended meaning. The first is: mindfulness, discrimination of dharma, and diligence, joy, tranquility, and samadhi, equanimity, these seven are the branches of enlightenment, they are the accumulations of merit for attaining nirvana. Right mindfulness is the branch of right enlightenment, proper reflection is wisdom, as well as diligence, joy, tranquility, samadhi, and equanimity are the branches of right enlightenment. These are called the seven branches of enlightenment, enlightenment is liberation, nirvana, a branch is the meaning that corresponds to it, it is the meaning of becoming the means of accomplishing it, these accumulations of merit are the practice of the means of attaining nirvana, therefore one should strive to practice. Moreover, it is stated in agreement in the Ornament of the Sutras and the Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes: the branch of nature, the branch of place, the third is the branch of renunciation, the fourth is the branch of benefit, the three branches without affliction. The so-called nature is the meaning of reality or main, therefore, the wisdom of realizing selflessness is the real basis of the branch of enlightenment, it is the main one, therefore it is the branch of nature. The meaning of place is the meaning of basis, the goal is not forgetting the meaning of selflessness, the mindfulness that gives rise to wisdom from this is the branch of place, renunciation is where to go up from, the wisdom of diligence 21-724 grows upward, therefore it is dili

The branch of arising and, the meaning of benefit is temporary benefit, that is, realizing the meaning of selflessness and emptiness, bringing forth special joy and happiness, is temporary benefit, so joy and happiness are branches of benefit. Extreme gentleness, and, Samadhi, equanimity, the three are branches of no affliction. In the Madhyāntavibhāga it says: "Here there are base and place, and self-nature is declared." Among them, the base is the meaning of cause, therefore, the dormancy of afflictions, and, the habitual practice of body, speech, and mind in accordance with them is evil destiny. If it is protected by previous efforts, then later, even if it is not specially protected by the power of habit, it will not arise. In addition, naturally engaging in virtue is the cause of the arising of no affliction. After that, extreme gentleness is the base, the place is the meaning of becoming the basis, therefore, the wisdom of no affliction abides for a long time, the Samadhi arising from Samadhi is the place of no affliction, the self-nature of the wisdom of no affliction is equanimity, that is, without greed and without hatred. Second, the meaning of the digression, among the seven branches of enlightenment, the main practitioners, that is, discriminating wisdom and, the Samadhi of meditation, are taught: Without wisdom there is no meditation, without meditation there is no wisdom. Whoever possesses these two, the existence of samsara, is like crossing the ocean like a cow's footprint. If there is no combination of hearing and thinking wisdom without error, then there is no way to practice meditation that abides in the meaning of reality, and without that meditation, there is no way to generate the uncontaminated wisdom arising from cultivation that abandons afflictions and directly sees the nature of reality. If the wisdom of hearing, thinking, and meditation and the meditation that abides in the meaning of reality are both possessed in one's own mindstream, then, even the difficult-to-cross ocean of samsara, like the water of a hoofprint, can be crossed without the difficulty of effort, that is, it is possible. The further digression of that, here to know.
