English
For completely demarcating boundaries such as cracks and water depths, and for indicating measurements, the suffixes དགྷྣཱ་, མཱ་ཏྲ་, and དྭ་ཡས are used. These suffixes are not used for measurements indicating the quality of things, such as good or bad. For indicating numerical quantities and temporal quantities, མཱ་ཏྲ་ is used more often. The other two are occasionally used a little. For example, ཛཱ་ནུ་སི་པ་རི་མཱ་ཎཾ་ཛ་ལ་སི་སི་, remove the first སི་, remove the following ཨམ྄, ཨ་, and it becomes ཛཱ་ནུ་པ་རི་མཱ་ཎཾ་ཛལཾ, which means the water is just below the knee. For this meaning, add ད་གྷྣཱ་སི་ཨམ྄ after ཛ་ནུའི་, and it becomes ཛཱ་ནུ་དགྷྣཱཾ. Similarly, པུ་རུ་ཥ་མཱ་ཏྲ་སི་ཨམ྄ becomes པུ་རུ་ཥ་མཱ་ཏྲཾ་བྲྀ་ཀྵ, which means a tree as tall as a person. Also, ཤི་རས྄་དྭ་ཡས྄, remove the vowel from ས྄, separate it, and it becomes ཨུ, then ཨོ, and finally add སི་ཨམ྄, and it becomes ཤི་རོ་དྭ་ཡ་སཾ་དཎྜ, which means a stick as tall as the head. Also, it is quoted in the commentary that for distinguishing one thing from two or more things, when using words such as ཀིམ྄, ཌ་ཏ་ར་ and ཌ་ཏ་མ་ are added. That is, whether distinguishing one from two things or distinguishing one from many things, for this meaning, after words such as ཀིམ྄, that is, within the scope of སོགས་, add the suffixes ཌ་ཏ་ར་ and ཌ་ཏ་མའི་ after ཡད྄ and ཏད྄. For example, ཀིམ྄་ཌ་ཏ་ར་, remove ཌ྄, keep ཨ་, because it is ཌིཏ྄, remove ཊི་, ཀ྄ has no vowel, add ཨ་, and it becomes ཀ་ཏ་ར།, after this, add the sixth case ཨོས྄ after བྷ་བཏ྄, and it becomes བྷ་བ་ཏོཿཀཱ་ཎཱཿ, put this sentence in front, and it becomes བྷ་བ་ཏོཿཀཱ་ཎཱ་ཀ་ཏ་ར།, which means which of you two is the son of the one-eyed man, this is an example of distinguishing one from two things. Also, ཀིམ྄་ཌ་ཏ་མ་, remove ཌ྄ and ཊི་, add a vowel, and it becomes ཀ་ཏ་མ་, separate སི་, and it becomes ཀ་ཏ་མཿ, after this, add the sixth case ཨཱམ྄ after བྷ་བཏ྄, and it becomes བྷ་བ་ཏཱཾ་ཏཱནྟྲི་ཀ་སི་ separate, and it becomes ཀ་ཏ་མཿ, the separation of མའི་ is the same as ཨུ་ etc., and it becomes ཀ་ཏ་མོ་བྷ་བ་ཏཱཾ་ཏཱནྟྲི་ཀཿ, which means who among you is the teacher of Tantra, this is an example of distinguishing one from many things. Similarly, add ཌ་ཏ་ར་ after ཡད྄, remove ཌ྄ and ཊི་, combine them, and it becomes ཡ་ཏ་ར་. Add ཌ་ཏ་ར་ after ཏད྄, remove ཌ྄ and ཊི་, add a vowel, and it becomes ཏ་ཏ་ར་. Similarly, combined with ཌ་ཏ་མ་, it becomes ཡ་ཏ་མ་ and ཏ་ཏ་མ་. The meaning is which, what, and that, etc.
